If you had the cooling system flushed, they probably didn't flush the heatercore correctly. The heater core in the taurus get clogged when the coolant is dirty. The best way to tell is to get the car up to normal temp and feel the hoses coming from the heater core on the firewall. You can reach around the back of the motor to feel them, they both should be hot. If they are not, you need to back flush the heater core, it can be done in 20 minutes with a garden hose, a pair of pliers and more coolant. There is 2 areas toward the engine on both sides that are easily accesible to remove the hoses from steel lines that go to the core, remove the lines and send water from a hose thru the core in both directions, you will be suprised by the amount of junk that can get stuck in the core.
Taurus' don't have heater valve, the core should be hot all the time the engine is running...
They are notorius for getting full of junk

Sounds to me like the heater valve is not working. When you switch from a/c to heater the a/c compressor shuts off and a valve between the engine and the heater core opens and allows hot water to enter the car that's where the heat comes from. If the valve does not open and allow the hot water in your not going to get heat.

NEVER repeat NEVER change ANY part till you know the problem. You wasted money on a cooling system flush and I would predict that very soon you will have overheating problems.
I fully agree with uthockey3, you have a heater valve problem.

A belt is slipping. it somewhat is no longer uncommon for them to initially squeal extra on startup. ought to be the belt is chilly and much less sticky, ought to be something the belt drives is stiffer while chilly - like a ability steerage pump pumping chilly fluid is harder than pumping heat fluid. So, do you only would desire to tighten the belt? Or do you % a sparkling belt? Or is something that the belt drives slowly failing? perchance the mechanics right here will help you artwork it out. you ought to initiate with a splash belt tightening. many times you only loosen a bolt on the alternator and flow it somewhat and tighten the bolt.

Sounds like ur water pump is going out, thats what happened to my 96 taurus. The water pump is expensive too!! The pump is supposed to pump ur fluids to ur thermastat and to ur radiator, or u could just need a new heating coil!!
