If u love him, then why do u want to hurt him. U should have broken up with him when u first found out that he is sick. he is not really ur responsibility , he does have a family, but if u really care for him now is the time that u should be with him, he needs ur support right now. Just wait until he do the surgery and see how he is doing, then u can break the news to him if u still want to.

I have a friend who had sickle-cell lukemia and his girlfriend left him for dead. (The doctors gave him 2 yrs to live.) Now, 5 years later and fully recovered, he gets a call from her begging for him to take her back. Guilt issues? I think so. I told him to tell her to get lost. He's got a great gf now who'd never leave him. Your choice, but it sounds like to me you don't really love the guy in the first place if you're worried about the $ issue and not the loss of a loved one. Maybe you should leave him, just tell him the REAL reason, this one.

Alice,

You have no obligation to take care of him but if you truly loved him and cared for him you wouldn't have even asked this question.
The way your attitude is right now he is better off with a nurse.

I would have done anything for the one I loved when he had his surgery.

If you can't deal with his illness, it is unfair to both of you to stay in the relationship. Especially to him, as he may be looking for someone to be there to care and support him. You don't want to lead him to believe that you are able to take on that role.

I think you know the answer to that question or you would not have asked. If you loved him, that question would not have come up in your heart. You are not doing him any favors by staying with him. He deserves someone who really loves him and is not kept with him by guilt.

Well no he's not your responsibility but you knew this from the beginning. How can you let him fall for you only to leave him when he needs you most ???? That's kind of cruel dont you think ?

Talk to him. Tell him that you love him, but don't know if you are going to be up for taking care of him.

if you really love him.. you'll stand by him. what kind of sickness/surgery are you talkin? regardless of what it is, you should be happy to stand by and help him. my boyfriend had 3 knee surgery's in like 2 years time. it is so important to stand by him, and help him through his hard times
