well, fisrt, putting your cat out is NOT mean. if you make your cat an outdoor cat, depeding on where oyu live, it will probably become a hunter. my cat is a hunter. i live in the country. Take him out and hold him there, just kind of show him around. leashes on cat is prolly not a good idea but, if you want to da that, walk him around the yard, but befor eletting him out on his own, get some cat treats. train him to come to you when you shake the container, and when he comes, give a treat. then you can let him out, and he'll come, but be careful.

If you want your cat to get hit by a car, attacked by another animal, or have someone abuse it, then go ahead and let your cat outdoors. If you were a responsible pet owner and cared anything at all about your cat, you would keep it indoors.

If your cat has grown up indoors, you should not let her or him out. It could not only be dangerous and potentially fatal for your pet, but if it not spayed or neutered, they could produce a litter of even more cats. Raccoons, poisonous snakes and birds of prey are the most dangerous to kitty - especially owls. Not to mention feral cats in the neighborhood who could get into a fight with your cat. It is easier for an outdoor cat to become an indoor pet. But please, if you love your cat, keep it indoors where it will be safe.

I can't figure out why you want to transition your cat from the inside to the outside.
To get killed?
How is the litter box going? Could this be the reason why?
Try to place your cat back into a shelter.
The kindest thing you could do instead of leaving him /her outside.

Ummm... probably not a good idea especially if he is declawed. He has been pampered and now you are putting him out where he has to learn to defend himself, stay away from cars, etc...
I know you didnt ask our opinions on outside cats but I worked at a vet clinic and if you saw how many cats are brought in with fight wounds from other animals or how many cats are hit by cars... you wouldnt make your cat stay outside.

That depends, is your cat afraid of the outdoors? that tends to happen with indoor cats. They grow accustomed to being inside. You could spend a few minutes a day with the cat outside together, gradually increasing the amount of time spent outside. Another thing you can do, I know this sounds corny, is to get a harnass and leash for your kitty. You can walk them around in the yard so they feel comfortable outside. Then start leaving them outside for short periods of time by themselves. Once they get comfortable with it, they will LOVE the outdoors!

Your cat is safer inside! And is used too being inside. Why would you want to put her out? She could get hit by a car or killed by a Pit Bull if you don't want the cat any more find a new home for her.

I would keep him as an indoor cat. Outdoor cats have higher death rates than indoor cats. Between predators, vehicles, mean psycho people.....

That's a bad idea. If your cat is not used to danger he'll be very easy prey for larger carnivores not to mention he won't have enough sense to stay out of the road.
Like everyone said just throw him and his food outside and hope he doesn't get killed, immediately.
