What mistake.. Jesus was a Jew who lived in the Middle East... What does it matter what we call our Children? Does it make them less beloved of God if their name is Ralph? Silly question!!! Jim

Actually none of them had English names---for examples the name of the apostle that gave up Christ to Romans- Judas - was actually "Judas Thomas Didymus". Another apostle, Paul was actually named Saul (resident of Tarsus). Another apostle, Matthew was named Levi. Most of the names were Jewish or Aramic.
Bible as it stands today is not how it was told by the 2nd and 3rd century followers of Christ. While the sensational movie Da Vinci Code fantasizes about massive cover up, it is true that Church in the 4th century did mess with the teachings and historical account of the apostles and their successors by twisting everything. The final insult was King James Bible, which made everything English.
Sad, which is why Catholics are in so much trouble. They have been living a lie for 2,100 years.

I don't think Jesus is an arab name?
Jesus or in hebrew = Yeshua
As well I think it means Joshua, which I think has been around for a while because there was a Joshua (after Moses died) who brought the Jewish people into the land of Canan.
If there are documents predating 1000 BC with Joshua/Yeshua/Jesus in Arabic on them then I could be wrong.

No, the Bible had to be translated at some point, from the original Greek and Hebrew into English. The Apostles had Hebrew names, but they were given English approximations when translated. Jesus' real name was Yehushua, but when it was translated to Greek, the Greeks don't have the "yuh" sound, so they changed the "Y" to a "J". And they don't have the "sh" sound, so they changed that to "s". And all Greek male names end with "-us", therefore Yehushua was changed to Jesus. Jesus is a Greek name, not Arab.

People in Europe started naming themselves after people in the bible. Just like people from Spain and Mexico started naming their children Jesus and people who convert to Islam change their name to Mohammed. The names in the bible came first.
There are copies of the New Testament that date back to the first century AD - long before Christianity spread to Europe and England...

More precisely , Greek names. Joshua [Jesus] is a Hebrew name. Phillip , Andrew , Matthew and Thomas were Greek names , Simon{peter] , Judas , James , John are of Jewish origin . NONE are arab.

If you look up baby names you'll find that biblical names are all attributed to Hebrew - including Paul, Mark, John, Luke, etc. Just because they are translated into the English names of Paul, Mark, John, Luke, etc. doesn't mean they are English names.
