My black lab is delivering puppies. She has only had one and it's been nearly two hours. How long will it take for her to deliver the rest? Its her second time having puppies.

If it's been longer than a couple of hours, it's time to take her to the veterinarian's office. Ideally, puppies are birthed about 15-20 minutes apart, and any longer can indicate a problem with a puppy or inertia of the uterus. Your vet can administer an injection to help to stimulate contractions and get the puppies moving. It's also a good idea to take an x-ray of her abdomen to see how many puppies to expect. It's safe to Mom and the pups, and will help you to know when she's about wrapped up the birthing.

Call your vet and let them know what is happening. Pups usually take about 1-2 hours for each pup to be born. I had one that took 3 hours. I thought she was done and then, SURPISE! Does she act like she is trying to have the babies? Good luck. Hope everything goes okay. Do you know how many she is going to have?

It can take up to 24 hours. If she doesn't deliver them all by tommorow morning consider taking her to a vet.
