You can keep it until it no longer tastes good to you. It really depends on when it was opened more so than the "sell by" date, unless it's way outdated. If it's within a few days of the date and has been open less than a week it will probably be okay. Just pour some in a glass and see if it looks and smells okay and, if so, taste it.

I say no longer than 1 week. And thats placing it in the back of the fridge so it stays very cold.
After the sell by date comes and goes I smell it everyday after to make sure before I get a big mouth full or use it for cooking and ruin the whole meal.

Unless it smells or looks bad it should be fine. I don't really know if I would keep milk after that date, but I've never had to. We go through a gallon of milk in two or three days.

usually the milk is still good even past the expiration date usually up to 4 days after that it goes bad but if you open the carton and keep it past the expiration date it will go sour in about a day or two.

My rule of thumb is to only have it for 4-5 days in the fridge past it's experation date. Make sure that your fridge stays at a good temp to keep it cold and fresher longer.

Well...technically, you can keep it forever, but I wouldn't reccomend drinking it...lol.
I would say about 5 days, but not if it smells sour...and it depends on how quickly you opened it.
