Your uniform speech does not have to be limited to school uniforms. Think of the military or the Boy Scouts for example. Uniforms immediately identify an individual as belonging to a particular group. During disasters, this identification is crucial in separating disaster workers, insurance claims specialists, and volunteers, from looters or other undesirables.

Uniforms are required for members of a government's military. It helps define the difference between POW's (who are entitled to Geneva Protections) and Enemy Combatants (who do not get Geneva Protections). During Viet Nam, select groups of US Special Forces went into Cambodia and Laos to wage war on the Viet Cong. Since the US was not engaged in a war with those countries, our soldiers had to wear camouflage that did not contain any US marking; hence if they were captured, they would have been treated as terrorists and could have been executed. The US could not avow for their activities.

And remember, uniforms do not have to be uniform--in other words, rank insignia is used to identify those with different amounts of experience; merit badges show different skills attained by the wearer.

Finally, uniforms does not need to consist of clothing at all--oversees, a simple armband with a Red Cross on identifies the wearer as a Red Cross worker.

Not all kids can afford brand names. Other kids judge people based on their clothes, the brands and style. If everyone looks the same people can't be picked on due to their economic status/lack of expensive items.

Distractions. Administrators feel without uniforms girls will wear short skirts or other revealing articles of clothing, or guys will wear their pants too low with their boxers showing. The best way to eliminate this is uniforms.

Less hassle. It takes less time to get ready in the morning if you only have to walk to your closet and grab one of the many uniforms there.

Im honestly against uniforms, but those are the points Ive heard in arguements for making uniforms mandatory.

Sometimes I wish I even had that option for work! Think about - you don't have to stress out over what to wear every day (this is part of the reason why I'm always running behind). I remember how it was in school...everyone had to have certain brands, so obviously uniforms would be much easier on the pocket book.

People claim that uniforms make people feel equal. Poor kids who dont have the "right" brand names dont feel left out. People claim they prevent bullying this way.

People believe students work harder because a uniform makes school more "job like".
