Ok, so i grew up catholic and havent been to church in years, i miss going but moved from my old church a long time ago, i dont particularly believe exactly with the catholic churches views, and have had a lot of thinking done as iv grown up.......to jump ahead to my question, im looking for church that teaches from the bible but doesnt take it literally, i dont mean pick and choose what we want to do out of it, but a church that doesnt think being gay is wrong, that doesnt think that stoning a child when it out of line is right, just because the bible directs to do so...i think the bible is a great book of stories and lessons, but i dont have enough faith in man to think it hasnt been altered over the years by personal beliefs....so if someone could tell me what im looking for or any information about what im suggesting, that wuld be wonderful.....thanx a bunch....

Sounds like you're a liberal christian. A lot of churches would meet this need - try Methodist or Presbyterian

It sounds to me like you don't want a church that teaches the Bible. It's all or nothing when it comes to the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16 says that ALL scripture is God-breathed. That is to say that all of the Bible is the inspired word of God. However, that is not to say that all of the Bible is intended to be taken literally. Furthermore, not every word is a universal truth; Rather some things apply only in their respective context. You need to learn more about the myriad genres in which each book is written and always consider the context of whatever you read.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I sincerely hope you don't find what you're looking for. I hope you find the real Jesus Christ instead.

There is nothing in the Scriptures telling anyone to stone a child, and yes as sad as it is, you will easily find a church that will teach what you want to hear, they're out there everywhere and quite popular.
You are wanting your cake and eat it to so to speak, you want a church that teaches from the Bible, but not literally, you want a church that says you can live any way you want to with no boundaries, you'll find one easy enough.
These churches in Revelation are called "luke warm" and Jesus is not happy with them, because they sit on both sides of the fence, you'll find one easy enough.
Why even bother going to church? Do you think by going you'll ease your conscience? Not when you pick a church that doesn't teach the Scriptures the way they need to be taught.

You will have a hard time finding a church that endorses homosexuality, or that says the Bible is just a bunch of stories. Kinda the whole point of starting a church is to teach people about the Bible.
My advice is, just ask around where your friends go to church, or have someone suggest one in your neighborhood. Each church has its own personality, so you really have to go there or ask someone who has been there.
If you can't find a church you like, start a fellowship of your own with a few close friends.

In my opinion the solution is not necessarily changing denominations, but finding another pastor or preacher in another parish. Almost every denomination has its conservative and its liberal wing. Although there is a common base, the man or woman in front of the church can make a big difference in how one experiences the church. One treats the Bible like a math book (literally) and other see it as guide in real live. Compare that to school, where although there is a curriculum, its the teacher who makes the difference.
Good luck with your search and watch out for sects!

try a non denominational church if a church is what you want. that way they don't pick and choose from the bible they use the entire bible as a lesson. however, you should never take anyone's word at face value. if you don't agree with your priest or pastor tell him and honestly request and explanation if they are rude that is not the church for you.

Well, here is the thing about your question. You came from a church background that had many non-Biblical traditions like telling their Priests that they couldn't have a wife when the Bible says that a church official should have a wife and family.
1 Timothy 3:2 It is necessary, therefore, for a bishop to be irreproachable, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, well-behaved, hospitable, skillful at teaching;
1 Timothy 3:12 Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children well, and their own houses.
Now you want to find a church that instead of adding to God's word with man made traditions, subtracts from what the Bible says in order to conform to the post modernistic way of thinking. There are such churches, but they are merely "feel good" centers where people hear what they want to hear while they travel on the road to damnation.
2 Timothy 4:1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who is going to judge the living and the dead in accordance with His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all patience and teaching. 3 For there will be a time when they will not put up with sound doctrine, but according to their own lusts, they will heap up for themselves teachers, tickling their ears, 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to myths.
I'm sure other people have or will post the names of those other churches but as a follower of Jesus Christ I would be remiss in my duties if I failed to tell you what Jesus said.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world so that He might condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness more than the light, because their works were evil. 20 For everyone that does evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God."
Find a church like the one I attend. http://www.alcf.net
We welcome everyone to "come as they are" letting them know that God loves you just like you are but He loves you too much to leave you that way!

Some Catholic churches are more 'liberal' than others. The Catholic church I attended at university embraced openly homosexual individuals just like heterosexuals.

I will say, just stay home and pray to God the almighty or Jesus,Going to church is a waste of time,You have to believe in yourself first then God,For you to go to church and let someone pray for you, forget it.The devil out there is everywhere. And most church people cannot solve their own problem.
