My wife and I have a 7 month old son and we are looking for a solution to our problem. I dont get home from work unitl 6:30 pm, and she just got a new job that starts at 5pm three days a week. That makes an hour and a half that we need someone to watch him, but I have heard that daycares make you have a minimum amount of hours to participate with them. Are there any good options out there, besides friends and family, that we could use to watch him?

what would be a better place than family or friends? babies are damaged by more than 10 hours a week away from mommy; you certainly don't want to hook up with any care providers that want a minimum number of hours with him. BTW, separation anxiety kicks in around next month - that will be a terrible time for him to be apart from mommy. Remember, too many caregivers in a child's life and you end up with a child with an attachment disorder.

My sister is having a similar problem because she is a nurse and only works a couple days a week with an odd schedule. She and her husband are looking into child care programs based out of a home. They are less traditional, but from what I have heard, if you research them well and find the right one, they are actually pretty good. One of the key things to look for in family-based child care is the number of children. There should be no more than 6 kids and no more than 2 of those kids should be infants or toddlers. That's just for practical and safety reasons. Also, if you go and look at a facility, make sure there are age appropriate toys. Good Luck!

You can still use a daycare. Not all daycares have a minimum hour requirement. If it is on a daily basis they shouldn't have a problem with it. There are a lot of children who get dropped off from school to a daycare because they're parents are working when they get off and they are only there for a couple of hours. If you want it on a consistent basis a good daycare should take you.

There are some day cares that have an hourly rate, call some of your local ones and ask if the have an hourly rate. Also, some baby sitters, may be able to help you out with an hourly fee to watch your son. Sometimes you can find ad's in the paper for people that do child care, but do be careful, and if you can look the people up or do a background check.

Most day care providers will work with you when your hours are different than normal such as in this case. I have one child I only watch 3 days a month. Talk to the provider about your special needs and you may find they are more tolerant than you thought. If not ask them if they can refer you to someone who might come to your home and watch the child.
Just to add a note: if worse comes to worse and you have to pay for the extra hours your wife could use them to buy groceries, have dr appt's etc so she has some time to herself- so in the long run it might be beneficial.

There are many in-home daycares that will charge by the hour, you just need to call around ask. If you contact your local Department of Human Services or CPS they can usually provide you with a list of registered in-home daycares in your area. Hope this helps :)

The only people who will watch a child for an hour and a half are friends and family. What's wrong with friends or family? Do they just not want to do it, or do you not want to ask them? If someone else who answers your question has a better answer, I want to know what it is, seriously.

put an add in the newspaper for a babysitter for only an hour and 1/2 each day. then you can pick which one you want out of all the people that call you!
