Also, since it has an in-built DVD Player, does it play or can it play an AVI or DVIX File?

This is a native svga model, there are not many projector with built-in dvd player so the price is rather difficult to comment. Protability yes. Consider this, you could buy two seperate unit for the same price or even cheaper. The dvd player does not play AVI or Divx (Mpeg4) disc. and you cannot ceiling mount this unit.Picture quality is good. You could choose a better outboard DVD player than this built-in one anytime.I would not recommend this unit.I had one to test for a day a few month back.

The Movietime got very good reviews on performance/price basis. See two reviews below.

Not all DVD players play all formats. In this case the built in DVD compatibility is listed as follows:

Media Compatibility: DVD, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVDRW, DVD+RW, Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW

Format Compatibility: DVD, VCD, SVCD, HDCD, CD, MP3, MA, Kodak PhotoCD, JPEG

Hope this helps.
