First I tried Effexor and I had to sleep about 11 hours a night. My personal doctor said that side effect was not worth the benefit. Then I tried Wellbutrin and had trouble sleeping at night. Then I tried Citalopram (generic for Celexa) and as I increased the dosage I was too drowsy so I decreased the dosage and that is what I take. My doctor and I decided that I must have a biochemical imbalance so to rule if I did or not I tried the antidepressants. The Citalopram causes me to yawn more than I would if I wasn't on it. The rounds of crying spells I fought off for about 20 years have now vanished. It is so much better. Before I did all this in the last year, some years ago a different doctor prescribed Paxil and I took it one night and upon awakening the next day I went into a manic state of mind. Upon my recent research on antidepressants I found out that drug can cause that reaction in some people.

I was on Celexa for about 2 months and it was awful. It didn't abate my symptoms at all and gave me such a stiff neck/shoulder area I literally couldn't look right or left without extreme pain or discomfort. After that I went onto Prozac which was fine but I was still experiencing some side effects, including more anxiety than when I wasn't on anything. But I'm on Lexapro samples right now and hope my insurance will cover it since it works best for me.

Wellbutrin did absolutely nothing for me.
Effexor worked well for a while. It was such a relief to not be working on my "plan." After a while though, it seemed to lose effectiveness. Also had very bad side effects when I forgot to renew my prescription and stopped taking it. And unpleasant side effects when I was taking it.- weight gain, no sex drive, unable to move my bowels ("Poop")

No matter what medications you take, you should also have a good therapist to work on better thinking habits. Otherwise you are on medications forever and dealing with those side effects.

Well, I LOVED paxil but I decided to take myself off of it after 5 years...which was fine until 9-11 and then I was very anxious sooo I went onto wellbutrin.. the paxil was a "happy-happy joy- joy" pill and this is an "ok" pill...

Now wellbutrin is what my doctor called ther "happy, healthy, and horny pill" ...meaning it gives you energy and does not affect anyone's sex drive which is generally not true of paxil as it is an SSRI...

I had no trouble going onto or off either drug as I went on and off v---e---r---y gradually which is what my doc advised...

I didn't take any medication. When I became depressed after a severe car accident, I had visible symptoms which the doctor diagnosed as being stress/depression related. I made a concious decision to 'snap myself out ot it'.
Worked for me.
Anti-depressants will make you drowsy not happy. Which is what their name indicates.
