well the first sign of infection is the red, itching and burning then if you feel heat coming from the spot where you got it! Then you have puss from it! be very carefull, go to the doctor and let then perscribe something for it! either an oral antibiotic or some type of cream to put on it! make sure you use A&D ointment! vitamin A and vitamin D put back the vitamins your skin needs to heal itself better!

I think you mean "infected" tattoos :)

A skin infection may be present if any of the following symptoms are present after having a tattoo or body piercing:

* Increased pain, swelling, redness, heat, or tenderness around the tattoo or piercing site
* Red streaks extending from the area
* Pus coming from the wound
* Swollen or tender lymph nodes
* Fever

Infection may start at the tattoo or piercing site on the surface of the skin. The normal clear or clear-yellow fluid that drains from a body piercing site may change to creamy yellow, brown, or red or look or smell like pus.

if you have to ask, it probably is. you should be keeping it clean with antibacterial soap and well lotioned (fragrance free). you may need to see a doctor if it is too bad.
