I have a female torti who always comes running if I raise my voice. I t doesn't matter what I say or who I'm "yelling" at. I could be calling my son from downstairs and the cat always comes first. If she's sitting near me and I holler out the door for the dogs she will get up and get right in my face purring like crazy. It's a little strange, but extrememly cute.

I should add that when I first got her I had roommates so I would call her to bed every night so that she would realize that I was her mom. Think that has something to do with it? She also listens to me like a dog. Yes, she goes outside (sorry for those of you who don't approve) and all I have to do is open the door and call her. She comes running from wherever full speed to come home to me.

Does anyone else's cat do this?

Maggie does follow me around while I do yardwork. She follows me when I walk the dogs every morning. You should see the look on people's faces when they see a cat following a woman and two dogs down the sidewalk!

"my cats have become accustomed to yelling"? I feel the need to defend myself here. My home is a happy, loving household. As I stated, the only "yelling" that goes on is to call the animals or the kids. Notice I put the word "yelling" in quotes in my question. Maybe I should have used the word "calling" instead of yelling.

Geez, I hate having to defend myself like that!

I had a cat that acted like a dog following me around the yard (outside) and coming when I called him. What I have found that gets most cats' attention is sort of singing "kittykittykittykitty" in a high raised voice. Maybe we're on to something :)

All I have to do is say my cat's names (I have two) and they come running. If I snap my fingers they come running. When I say the word , "NO", you should see their ears go way down cause they know I am mad and they are in trouble. That is the only time I raise my voice to them and when I do, they run for the basement as fast as they can, but little do they realize that when I catch them doing something bad, I shut the basement door and catch them every time. when I yell, cats scatter wherever they can. It's too comical.

I have three cats, and one in particular comes running when he's called. The other two could care less.

cats resond to tone of voice. Yes they do resond to their name but you can say anything to a cat as far as i know and they wont know what you are saying to them as long as you use the same tone you always do. My cats have a bunch of names each. I mist have at least 3 names fro each cat and no matter what name i call someone comes, from my experience its the tone not actual name so much.I have 7 cats and i just call them in a certain tone and they all come. I guess your animals have come acutomed to yelling, whch as long as no one else minds isnt an issue.

My cats react when I yell. They will get up in my face, meowing questioningly....I guess to see if I'm ok because we don't normally yell around my house. He meows LOUD when I yell....and rubs my face.
