Thanks.

This an easy question. Don't know what the confusion is since this is the dental section. There are two types of views to dental implants. The traditional vs immediate load. Both work the same and both seriously have the same out come just with one you must wait to get your teeth and the other you get your teeth the same day.

The traditional route the tooth is pulled and with some Doctor's they make you wait until you are healed, with other's they place the implant the same day and both give you an artifical tooth or teeth such as in a denture until the implants have bonded to the bone. You must refrain from chewing and maintain a soft chew diet during this time. After which time the gums are surgically open to reveal the implants and the abutment is screwed onto the implants then the teeth are attached.

The immediate load or as my Doctor calls it "teeth in a day" the teeth are pulled, implants placed and beautiful teeth attached in one surgery. You never are one day without teeth. However as amazing as this seems one still has to be careful that you do not put pressure on them and maintain a soft diet for the time of osseointegration or (bone bonding) At the end of the time (for me it was 5 months) you get fitted with your permanent teeth.

So basically the results are the same just the steps are different. Both have basically the same results in the end.

I have an immediate load (teeth in a day) smile with 8 implants on top and 6 on the bottom with a whole piece bridge prosthesis.

Skeeter has explained it well above. While most patients may be the good candidates for dental implants, but not many can expect to qualify in the case of immediate load implants. For this a candidate has to have very health jaw bones that are going to take the 'load'. While a temporary crown is also placed immediately, the permanent crowns some times might as well be possible to cement in 2-3 week whereas the normal healing (osseointegration) process is still going on, to be complete in 3-6 months.
