I haven't taken Topamax, but when I took Wellbutrin a while back, it was amazing that I didn't eat as much. You just don't WANT to eat as much when you're on a mood stabilizer.

Meds are great. Take them with an open mind and don't panic - enjoy.

I took topamax as a mood stabilizer. I lost mucho weight during its usage. The bad part of topamax that I experienced was the short term memory loss. I could not for the life of me remember what I did the day before. It became too scary for me so I stopped. Weight loss yes but some I have spoken too lost nothing. I also walked at least two times per days and cut back on food consumption. In total I lost 42lbs with topamax! Be careful and goodluck!

I took Topamax for about a year while in therapy for an eating disorder. It seemed very effective in conjuction with the therapy for several months but the weight loss seemed to taper off after that. I did lose about 30 pounds while on Topamax and in therapy and have kept it off for over a year. I did not have any terrible side effects that I can remember. One strange side effect is that ALL carbonated beverages (soda, beer) taste flat. I threw away a lot of perfectly good beverages before I realized it was me and not the drinks!

Topamax is an excellent medication. It is very helpful with weight loss with very few side effects. I have a friend who has lost 30 lbs on it so far and it also helped her moodiness.

I'm on Topomax. It's a mood stabalizer. It's 'supposed' to make you not hungry, but I can attest to the fact that after you take it awhile, it doesn't work. I need to lose at least 100 lbs. and it didn't do crap for me. I'm having to do it with self-control. (Which is NOT easy.)
