Eeeeh, yes and no.
You're right, it's absolutely a religion, but it's an ethnic identity, too. Even secular Jews (people from Jewish families who don't follow the faith) share common links with religious Jews as far as foods, music, literature, etc. Many secular Jews continue to observe Jewish holidays.
Also, there was a genetic study that found a "Cohen gene," a common gene present in a large portion of people with the last name Cohen and Levi, names associated with the ancient Jewish priesthood.

I know lots of Jews who are not of Arab descent -- what makes you think that they are?
Ask any Jew what you have to be to be a Jew, and you will be told that you are a Jew under two conditions. The first is if your mother is a Jew, and the second is if you convert to the religion.
I know lots of people who call themselves a Jew and clainm to be either agnostic or an atheist (or perhaps a Unitarian).
The most famous Jew in Literature (Leopold Bloom from James Joyce's ULYSSES) was raised a Protestant and converted to Catholicism. DId I happen to mention that his mother was born a Jew?
Being a Jew is like Certs -- it is a breath mint AND a candy.

Jewish history is the history of the Jewish people, faith (Judaism) and culture. Since Jewish history encompasses nearly six thousand years and hundreds of different populations, any treatment can only be provided in broad strokes.
Though Jews became increasingly integrated in Europe, fighting for their home countries in World War I and playing important roles in culture and art during the 1920s and 1930s, racial anti-Semitism remained. It reached its most virulent form in the killing of approximately six million Jews during the Holocaust, almost completely obliterating the two-thousand year history of the Jews in Europe. In 1948, the Jewish state of Israel was founded, creating the first Jewish nation since the Roman destruction of Jerusalem, subsequent wars between Israel and its Arab neighbors, and the flight in the face of persecution of almost all of the 900,000 Jews previously living in Arab countries. Today, the largest Jewish communities are in the United States and Israel, with major communities in France, Russia, England, and Canada

Judaism is a religion, and is also an ethnic background. Yes, people can convert to the religion and there are also ethnic Jews that do not practice the religion. There are several different ways by which Jews are considered an ethnicity.

Judaism is a way of life, and Jews come from all corners of the world, in many colors.
Those who think Judaism is a race or an ethnicity are uninformed, that's all.....

You do realize you're wrong, right?
Judaism is not only a religion, but an ethnicity and a nation as well.
We are definitely not a race, but I would like you to prove me wrong in this case, as I am pretty sure that my ethnicity is Judaism and nothing else.

The term Jewish (Yehudim) means Judean. Technically, they are descendants of the House of Judah or the Southern Kingdom of Israel whether they were religious or not.
