I have an open bite and a lot of times my mouth will hang open - i wonder is this the cause of a white tongue.

thanks

Mouth breathers often have the surface of the tongue dry out and the surface papillae get a white shaggy appearance . If however the coating appears smooth and can be peeled off leaving a red inflammed surface then I would suspect a fungal infection (candida albicans). In either case use of a mouthwash and brushing the tongue surface may prove helpful

THIS WHITE COATING IS MOST LIKELY BACTERIA. ALTHOUGH A YEAST INFECTION MAY ALSO APPEAR AS A WHITE COATING. HAVING AN OPEN BITE DOES NOT CAUSE A WHITISH COATING.
A TONGUE SCRAPER SOLD IN PHARMACIES WILL REMOVE THIS COATING. YOUR TONGUE SHOULD BE CLEANSED ON A DAILY BASIS.

the cause of a white tongue is lack of brushing one's tongue while brushing one's teeth.

No! Your taste buds are renewing their cells. Your taste buds grow and regenerate like anything else on your body. (hair, skin, nails)

Just give them a good tounge scrub.
