I suggested removing sharp and harmful objects from cupboard and let the child play with the pots and pans. I offended someone when I didn't suggest a toy purchase I guess. My kids used to love the shiney and noisey everyday tools of the kitchen. (child-friendly ofcourse). Does anyone let 'their' kids play with cooking utinsils?

I have a 14 mo old, 2 1/2, and 3 1/2 yr old that all play with my pots and plasic or wooden utensils. They love the noise and they keep out of my way while I'm cooking. Of course, then it's also fun to play in the empty cupboard and play peek-a-boo!!

My kids loved getting into the cuboards and playing with the pots and pans. Most utensils are plastic and are safe. I can't say my boys ever got hurt. Well except for when the oldest would pull out all of the pans and then stick his little brother in the cupboard.

I actually think that letting toddlers play with safe kitchen items like pots and pans (which can get really noisy!), plastic and wooden spoons, whisks, measuring cups, etc. sets kids on the way to wanting to know about cooking food and helping in the kitchen and it expands their diet. Have fun

Pots and pans and spoons are the best toys. I played with them as a kid. Now my kids play with them. You can buy an expensive toy and the kid would rather play with pots and pans and spoons. My two children are 3 and 1 year old. I applaude you and dont understand you getting a violation notice. Appeal it. Good luck.

All the time and my 10 month old loves it. Hey I've spent alot of money on toys and he always gets bored with them, but not those kitchen utensils...I did the same with my now 10 year old and she came out just fine. I say let them go for it in the kitchen area that you have made safe for them- heck sit down and bang on the pots with them. Children grow up sooooo fast, let them enjoy the baby age.

My kids have always playes with that kind of stuff. Some people are just strange and have wierd ways of thinking. I dont understand why you would get a notice for that. But seems everyone else lets their kids play with pots and pans, etc...

My health visitor suggested the same thing. So do many books on child care. What is the problem with it?

I let my kids use saucepans and wooden spoons as drum kits. They prefer using these to the plastic ones. Also rice (uncooked of course) inside a washed out plastic bottle is good, as long as it's sealed well.

How can anyone take offence to it??

Mine did all the time! Wooden spoons and pots, loud but they loved them. Also my youngest loved to play with the can goods. She would take them out of the cabinet and put them back....spent hours doing that. Don't know why you would get a violation for that. Some people are so ignorant.

Yes, my kids did when they were growing up and my granddaughter does now. We have a tupperware cupboard that she loves to play in. I'm always having to restack all my tupperware, and I also have a low cupboard with just some pots and pans that can't hurt her. She loves to hear them make noise.
