If they plug into the mains, then only if you have a device for changing the voltage from the American 120 volts, to the British, (and I believe European) 230 volts.
Also you would need a socket adaptor, they use a 2 pin plug, but don't attempt an adapted plug, without a voltage changer.

This is technical, basically the answer to your question is NO, the effort is not worth the trouble, and expense.

Apparently my friend went to New York and because the voltage is a lot lower, GHDs do not reach the same temperature. I think you should take some gas ones with you just in case.

No problem! All you need is a UK to US plug adaptor and you're good to go!

If they can work on 110 volts, yes. (A plug adaptor just changes the pins.)
