You should always wait at least 6 weeks between colorings to keep your hair in it's best condition possible. Dyeing too often can severely damage hair, and in extreme cases of women dyeing too often over extended periods, cause it to fall out.

I was told by a hair dresser to wait at least six months because I have really dry hair. But I know some that have really healthy hair can get by with it in 3 months...

If it is a dark color you should wait at least a month, because if you try to go from a dark color to a light color to soon it will melt your hair. I had a friend do it and it cost her almost a 1,000.00 dollars to have it fixed.

Whatever you do, don't do what I did!! I dyed my hair from a brown to a black, and got ash, sooooo in horror I just shaved my head, bald.
Wore a wig around, until it grew back out.

You will have to bleach first as you cannot go from dark to light without getting rid of the dark colour with bleach first. Its a very harsh process and its not good to do it more than you need to. I wouldnt do it more often that once every couple of months (roots only!)

2 1/2wks to 1 month.
At least that is what my hair dresser used to tell me back in the 90's.

Luckily I have my natural color now at age 35..no gray yet!

my hair was dyed black and it couldn't be lifted. the salons put countless things. finally a blonde shade was put on that turned it a brown.

It just depends on the condition and resilience of your hair. Make sure you deep condition before applying chemicals.

wait 24 hours earlier you dye it and DONT wash it quickly when you dye it. wait till day after today once you oftentimes wash your hair. it varies on the type, so study the guidelines.
