It is no more evil than any other Christian religion, and much less evil than many.
I was raised Catholic and reject it.
However, I also see that Protestants understand little or nothing of Catholicism. Most of their claims about it are patently false (such as the comment above about idolatry). While I reject Catholicism, I see in it a consistency that is lacking in Protestant religions.
The truth is that I can 't be part of any orthodox religion (Catholic, Orthodox Jew, Eastern Orthodox, Fundamentalist Islam) because they do not treat women as equals. I can't be part of any non-orthodox religion because they are all heretics.

i am catholic, i dont see it as somewhat evil i see it as a strict religion that actually makes sense.
