if I had a take-away(chips?) could i instantly burn it off with a bit of exercise

Well..you need to wait about an hour or something until it's digested. Depends on how much you ate.

But yeah you can definitely burn it off if you do the right amount at the right intensity. But it's hard to figure out so if this answer depends on whether you're going to have chips or not i'd say don't bother.

Your best bet is to exercise BEFORE.
But make sure you eat within an hour of the exercise. Cos your metabolism will go up after exercising and you'll burn off the food faster. ;-) Cool huh



edit: the calorie counters aren't correct unless your heart is at the right rate. So that's why I said it's difficult. You can't just get a machine and it says '50cals burnt' and you go "nice, that's half the amount of calories my chips had". It doesn't work like that.
