I am 5'4 and 131 lbs. I do sit ups, lift weights, do leg exercises everyday. I drink a couple beers when I get home from work to relax. I don't over eat either. My job also requires that I am constantly moving and on my feet for 4-8 hours a day.
Why can't I keep off the wieght? Please give me answers and not sarcastic ones either. Do I maybe have a thyroid problem?

switch to a lite beer like Michelope Ultra - or for something more tastey, how about a guiness. Also...I astually lost weight drinking beer, but I gave up a meal to make up for those extra calories

What is your target weight? Depending on your frame (small, medium, large), you might actually be at your correct height/weight. I'd say be careful not to diet and hurt yourself in the process.

However, if you want to lose a few extra pounds ... the bottom line is to cut out the beer and do cardio for about 30 minutes, 3-4 times-a-week. In other words, do some exercise that gets your heart rate up to about 155 beats-per-minute for about 20-30 minutes. What does that mean? Jog, basketball, tennis ... whatever it takes. The cardio in combination with the strength training that you're already doing (sit-ups, weight lifting) will make you very lean.

The last thing is to take a look at your diet. What are you eating? Fried foods? Or, fresh whole foods like vegetables, fresh fruit and whole grains. Eat lean meats like chicken breast or beef that has less than 10 percent fat. Saturated fat is bad fat. Good fat is poly- and mono-unsaturated fat. You can find that in things like nuts, avocados and fish.

Try adding some cardio 3-4 times per week for 30-45 minutes. Also, limit your alcoholic beverages... they will cause you to gain weight. Take a look at the other things you are eating too... are they processed foods or are they "good for you" foods? In order to lose weight you have to combine exercise with healthy eating habits. Good luck! (But, you don't sound overweight to me... just try to lay off the alcohol as much and increase your cardio and that should help jump start your program)

You probably don't have a thyroid problem, but i am no doctor so i cannot diagnose you.

Most likely you need to do cardio exercise to keep the weight off. All the sit up and leg raises tone your muscles, which is better than nothing, but to burn calories you really need to raise your heart rate for a minimum of 20 minutes.

Check out our beer calorie guide. You might be able to save a few hundred cals per week if you choose wisely! http://www.united-nations-of-beer.com/beer-calorie-guide.html

Stop drinking. That will help a lot. You don't have a thyroid problem, it's the booze. That adds a LOT of weight.

If you don't think that you can do that, or find that you are thinking about beer even when you aren't drinking it, then you have bigger problems than your weight.

you ever counted the calories in a beer?

seriously though, being skinny or thin is NOT natural for most people. the human body has its own target weight, and some people are structured differently. the media and society, of course, tell you that skinny is beautiful and you have to be bone-thin to be attractive, but this just isn't true.

anyway, being very skinny is obviously not your natural weight, so you will need to put in serious work and dedicate yourself in order to drop more weight. cut calories every way possible (especially alcohol), and burn more calories than you are now.

also, if you're lifting weights and bulding muscles, you're going to GAIN weight. muscle is heavy, especially compared to fat.

You're pretty much just maintaining your current weight. You need to cut back your calorie intake- both food AND beer/soda,etc. and keep exercising. THEN you'll lose weight.
At your height/weight, you're not really fat anyway, so I really wouldn't worry about it!
