The recommended amount of salt per day is 2.3 grams which is about 1 teaspoon. You also have to consider the amount of sodium chloride in any processed foods you eat. More is OK if you are healthy, but this amount is recommended to prevent problems with blood pressure and heart disease later. Read the labels on the foods you eat, and try to fresh as much as possible so the only salt you get is what you add (though foods do contain small amounts of sodium and chloride anyway). As far as LoSalt check the label for the amounts.

You should eat as little as possible. Basically you will get at least the nessecary amount in basic foods (bread, cereal etc) and as such the best thing to do is never add any salt to foods and don't eat anything that tastes too salty on a reegular basis.
You could add up the salt values displayed on the packets of foods to get a value - this is probably the only practical way of finding out without lab tests.

It is no more than 5g for girls 7g for guys and the only way you could measure that is by cooking from scratch and measuring the salt or reading what it says on the packet.
don't eat processesed food as this is packed with salt (they have to put more in because as it is stored it loses flavour)
Please remember if you buy low salt foods they will pack them full of artificial stuff that will give you cancer!
my advise is eat fresh food stay away from deserts, 5 fruit and veg a day (smoothies for this) and don't skimp too much on the salt when your cooking because you will get tempted to go to the chippy and that's much worse with or without salt!

I have always eaten as much salt as I wanted. I am in excellent health...no high blood pressure or anything. The main thing is that without the iodine in salt your thyroid will go bonkers and you'll end up on all kinds of nasty medication. My thyroid is perfect and I'm over 50 years old...I won't say how far over.

I believe it's actually 3g of salt per day. Avoid adding salt to anything and don't eat anything with added salt.

Lo salt simply contains less sodium. It's usally best not to have more than 3g anyway as potassium (the usual sodium substitute) can be detrimental to health too.

The data on food "nutritional information" had data on salt. Take "sodium" weight and multiply by 2.
