I've been homeschooling about two years and really hate it. I've been thinking about public school, but I know all the people that I would be going to school with, and.....well.....don't really want to have to deal with them again. I'd love to go someplace where I wouldn't just be the loner/weird/geek girl. My mom suggested boarding school. I'm not sure if I like the idea, but it does sound interesting. Anyone know what it's like? Any opinions on it?

My son went to The Alabama School of Math & Science, a boarding school for junior and senior high schoolers. He hated the local high school so much, that he did all the application paper work and all the investigation himself! He couldn't wait to get away from those people. He was in the inaugaral class of the Alabama school.

Though he liked it more than the local high school; when he wasn't feeling well, or when he was broke, he didn't like being away from home. At least we were only about 30 miles away. Think about it. He did like being able to walk to Kripsy Kreme with classmates to get coffee and donuts while studying.

There are lots of arguments for and against both of your choices. But if you really hate home schooling, go for the boarding school. There is one thing, though. There will probably be people there with whom you really don't want to deal! Just like public school. The only thing is, you'll be living with them and with no parents around to intervene.

My son learned a lot and it made him stronger. I sure he would say it was a good experience. Just be aware that it won't be all that different because you'll still have some of the same kind of people to deal with. Learn to deal with it, even if they think you are the loner/weird/geek girl, and you can have a great time!
