Most Brits love US.....However, I have a few British friends and they find our policies appalling.....

It's not just America. Conservatives in Iran do the same against us. The French and English have longstanding resentments of each other. People or as a group feel a need to work against an enemy in general (not all people, but most). Having the state pick and enemy and make a case against them creates some control over this. Without creating this enemy, real or imagined, the government runs the risk of the people choosing the government as the enemy, real or imagined.

You have to separate the people from the government. Most British people hate American government but like Americans. On the other hand, British government is American government's "best friend"... one sweet poodle of a prime minister that Tony Blair.

The British are our friends. Just look at the history of the nations since the war of 1812 and you would know.

Friends. Even though we talk a lot of crap about each other. I think a lot of our problems with each other stems from the fact that we don't want to acknowledge how much alike our two cultures really are.

I agree with another poster-most are our friends. We have strong past history ties.
Just like friends who might disagree with each other now and than--but will be there when need be.
I hope that is true too. Hard times will tell how strong that friendship is. On both sides.

well speaking as a Brit, i have always thought of our American people, and lets face it, my ancestors moved to America, have traced it back,, as my friends, look at the great movies they turn out and all the soaps , such as friends,, i know American people love the Brits, America is like home from home, just on a grander scale, all for one and one for all

Militarily, they are friends. However, there are civilians on both sides who might wonder (or, outright disagree).
