it is a dog toy with a hole to put food in to keep them entertained, i went on their website but the recipies are really unhealthy like melted cheese and peanut butter. peanut butter is good because it is sticky and lasts a long time, but it is kind of fattening. what does anyone else put in theirs if they have one? thanks.

Peanut butter has protein!!

If you freeze the peanut butter the night before it will take even longer to get it out

Let's see.
1. Their regular dog food.
Rather than a bowl, fill the Kong. Use the larger kong to get more in and really pack it tight.
2. Peanut Butter.
Even just a glob on the finger and smeared inside will keep your dog busy a while without too much fat.
3. Cheese or Cheese Wiz.
I usually use a smaller kong with this one.
4. Bananacicle.
This is my dog's favorite. Take ripe bananas and completely fill the inside of the kong. Place filled Kong in the freezer and once frozen give Kong to your dog. It a frozen banana popcicle!
5. A couple of slices of pepperoni.
6. Veggis or berries. Does your dog like either of these? The only draw back to the berries is the mess. Do it outside or on linolium.
Be creative and pack in what your dog likes to eat.
4.

I use peanut butter as well. Just buy the lower fat pb if you are concerned about weight gain. My dog likes a good old dog biscuit in his as well. You don't have to put that much pb in the kong to make it last. I think pb works the best. You can also buy a spray substance in a can made by kong for kongs. I don't know how healthy it is, but it is made for dogs. I have never bought it because my boy likes the pb so well. Good luck.

I put in natural unsalted peanut butter that I get from trader joe's. This way you aren't also putting in unhealthy sugars and oils and who knows what else. If it's just a small amount and your dog loves it, go with it and just make sure he gets lots of exercise. Another hint is to freeze it - it then takes the dog longer to get it out.

You could also try a 100% apple applesauce (I say this because may applesauces have preservatives, sugars, and colouring) and freeze it. It shouldn't melt quicker than he can lick it out and if he likes apples, he should love this treat. Or, you could do a mix of the two! : )

You could smear some Natural Choice Healthy Desserts in there, but you need to make sure the Kong gets washed on a regular basis so bacteria doesn't build up.

There is no way I would relegate 8 lb dogs to the yard and a garage....they are not going to be able to handle the cold. They need to be inside. If there is no way they can be inside with you, then please try to find another home for them. It doesnt snow where I live, and when my BIG dogs had to use the garage as shelter, I completely insulated it, and even heated it during the coldest part of the winter. Your big dog may have a heavy coat, but it will probably still be too cold for him. Isnt there someplace in the house he could at least spend the night?

you should not give dogs any sort of nut it can be very bad for them the best thing you can stuff kong with is either cornbeef that has been in the fridge or the rolls of dog meat my dogs have them as a treat each time i go out and leave them they love them but i dont use a kong i use a bone that i buy from the pet shop for them that are already stuffed with meat and when they are empty i fill them up with meat as i said cornbeef from the fridge or the rolls of dog meat that i keep in the fridge and they love it and chewing on the bone is better for the dogs teeth and keeps the dog teeth clean and to much liver is bad for a dog should only be given once in a while

I wedge slices of apples and baby carrots into my dogs' kongs ... it's good fiber for diet, healthy and it doesn't stick to their teeth like cheese and pb.

Hope it helps.

I make my own concoction: chopped carrots, doggie treats, her favorite ones at PetCo's snack bar and peanut butter, mix and freeze. One more thing I do for her is get Sodium Free chicken broth, pour it inside an ice cube tray, and give her a cube/day. She really loves that, specially on a hot day. Any time I provide them with that kind of treats, I'll do it outside, they tend to be messy.

My dogs go mad for cheese. If you want to be healthy you could try a lower fat cheese spread. I find anything that they think smells good gives them loads of enjoyment even if its hard to get which I think why peanut butter is popular.

I make my own paste with chicken mince and mashed carrots and freeze it in the kong overnight. But my dog eats anything so he's not fussy about his treats.
