When considering undetected crimes, police departments take two things into account; severity of the crime committed and distance between time of the crime and current application. If you were dealing drugs a month ago and applying now, there is no way they will hire you. If this was something you did a few years ago, it will be examined and come under scrutiny, but is less likely to prevent you from being hired. A good way to find out if you're still eligible is to speak with a department's recruiter and ask what they think. Most are pretty honest and upfront and appreciate that you are coming to them and asking instead of hiding it. It has to come out one way or another in the background investigation by your own disclosure or the polygraph by your own disclosure. If you don't tell them, you'll be disqualified for sure. There comes a time to disclose it during the process. If they tell you to come back in X years, take the time to volunteer in your community, go to college or just hold down a job and be a law abiding citizen.

You do not give enough information on the charges, but yes a minor possession of marijuana or a first offender case would not absolutely rule you out. More serious drugs are a different matter. The main thing is to be able to swear that you have not used for a period of time, usually 5 years. You should be able to support your response via polygraph. Being absolutely honest in your application and interview process will give you the best opportunity to explain and to be considered. Any untruthfulness will automatically remove you from consideration.

It all depends on how recent the drug charge was. If it is was within months, or a year upon application to the police academy, I would say your chances are slim.

Most likely yes. It may depend on the what it was and how long ago. If you don't tell them about it or lie to them it it will most effect weather you become a police officer or not.

Sure.....actually a misdemeaner drug charge is a bonus, it just means you have experience selling drugs which is what most police forces are looking for today....people to sell their drugs........

Well its very obvious your talking about minor posession of marijuana. Yes of course you can. Police agencies really don't mind minor arrests it actually makes them more knowledgable about the law. You will just have to pass the polygraph test before hiring when they ask you if you currently use marijuana. Poss. of marijuana is so stupid and most employers really don't even care. It shouldnt even be a criminal charge it should be a civil fine.

Not in alot of departments, it will depend completely upon thier rules. In many departments any usage even without a conviction will stop you.

In most cases you will end up in smaller departmetns
