I asked this question before but what I'm looking for is if there is some unwritten rule I broke--like don't ask about your date's dinner. Is there something that I'm missing? Ok here is the scenario:

I went out to dinner with a girl. She ordered chicken sticks. I didn't know if they were grilled or fried so I asked, "is that fried?" She seemed a little bit hurt so I said, "oh I just want to know because I might want to order that but only if it is grilled." Consequently she only took a couple bites of chicken sticks and said she was completely full. Was I insensative? Did I break an unwritten rule? Should I have known better? As an aside: I ordered a grilled chicken feduccini.

Yes, you unwittingly broke a rule. You just shouldn't comment on your date's choice, except to say, "that sounds delicious" or "great choice." Your comment could be misconstrued as a criticism of her eating/health habits. It's like saying, "I would eat that, but fried food is bad/fattening/disgusting and grilled food is far superior." Thus, it's a little rejection of your date.

Goodness knows. My only suggestion is that maybe she thought you were being concerned about her diet, and thus her weight, and thus perhaps she thought that you were saying that she was fat or something. Girls are extra-sensitive about things like that, even with an explanation.

Next time, I recommend not suggesting a meal that may be "healthier" than hers, or may seem that way. Just a thought.

I haven't heard of anyone being offended with that statement unless she's weight obsessed or has issues. Don't worry about it, you were asking about the sticks, not her body mass. She ought to have known better.

It sounds like conversation to me. I wouldn't have been offended. It's not like you asked her weight. Some people are overly sensitive and I wouldn't place too much emphasis on it. If she is offended, then she may be a future problem, so dump her and run.

Sounds like maybe that girl was dieting so when you asked is that fried she thought maybe she shouldnt eat it. Or thats how she eats all the time.

not at all...you have your preferences...if she's hurt by that, well i think that's a bit extreme!

good luck, maybe try to date someone who is not so sensitive!
