There are six things which the LORD hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to evil, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers
PROVERBS 6:16-19
a pride-filled person;
a person who speaks lies;
a person who destroys the lives of others;
a person whose heart dreams up evil;
a person who is quick to participate in evil;
a person who tells lies about other people;
a person who ignites discord and ill-will among others.
Know anyone like that?
Anything hit close to home?
No wonder God thinks of these sins as abominations. These are the things that ruin lives, end in death, and destroy the ability of someone to exist in close company with others. These sins are the ones that kill love, maim friendships, cause heartaches, create turmoil, and stir up discord. These are the sins that make life little more than a soap-opera.
What can we do to keep ourselves from becoming prey to this kind of evil?
It’s hard to understand how these sins get a foothold among human beings, except that it’s got to be the work of Satan who manages to enlist us into his own army and to participate in killing off our own. The sad thing is that we often we find these sins disguised in the garb of religion. Pretending to be “righteous” and concerned about doing God’s will, there are more than a few who will set out to destroy others. It must make God sick.
How can we avoid these sins?
What can we do to keep ourselves from becoming prey to this kind of evil?
