Hi, I got my puppy five weeks ago, he is now 16 weeks old and lovely and very affectionate. But when I leave him to go upstairs he pulled my new carpet up and ruined it, chews my shoes, my cuboards, anything really! and when I go out of he room he howls, What can I do to stop him doing this? I do realise that he is a puppy still, but I do want to keep my house tidy!!

Hi, you really need to crate him when you leave him on his own. Its sounds cruel but it works.
If he has never been in a crate before you need to introduce him to it bit by bit.Make sure you have a favourite toy and a warm blanket for him in it.
First put him in it whilst you are in the room and give him treat whilst he's in it.
Keep repeating this and then try leaving the room for 10Min's and then come back in. He will probably howl to start with as its all new to him, but eventually he will see it as his haven!
The worst thing that you could do is when he is howling at night time is to go back and fuss him because you will be giving him the attention he craves and it won't work!
I have done this with my 7 month old lurcher since he was a 10 weeks old and also my staffy ***** who' s 5 now and it has worked!

simplest thing to do is buy a cage. it sounds harsh but actually its a very practical idea, may cost a bit at first but think of the money it is gunna save you in the long run. cages come in all sizes so he can have his own "territory" in which he can have his own toys and things what he can chew. just remember not to use the cage as a place to put him when he does something wrong as he will associate it with punishment and you want to make it a place what is his own where he can be happy and comfortable.

For the chewing part, it is natural. I suggest you go out and buy atleast 5 toys, atleast 2 or 3 of those being chew toys. Keep them near him, and he might pick out a favorite.

Be patient, they are very child like but soon grow out of it. Try leaving him somewhere where he'll do no damage, put him outside? Keep him active, fortunately Staff's don't like long walks so this is an easy option.

You need to crate.

It will make him happier to see you and you happier to see him.

Have fun. It does take about two years for bully breeds to settle down - some longer. Bullies are big kids at heart.

they are notorious for doing that, it'll take a good few years for him to stop, you need to get a dog cage for when you go out, its the only way, and dont leave him too long

Of course not, APBT`s are the only "game" in town. Pun intended.
