It's what dogs...do...

Nobody knows why dogs have such demented appetites for those kinds of things but the fact is that all dogs do. There's not a dog alive that would pass up a chance to eat cat poop, deer poop, rabbit poop, and a number of other kinds of poop. Perhaps its because dogs are scavenger species as well as being carnivorous. Another theory is that perhaps there is undigested food in feces that the dogs are attracted to. Only thing is for sure, its one point which dog and human appetites will NEVER AGREE ON!

My cocker spaniel does the same thing. My trainer says that it is because they are Sporting breeds. Labs, GSP and spainels are all in the sporting class and I know that my cocker loves to eat that stuff and hunt for wildlife (even if it is just in my backyard). You can teach your lab to stop with some consistent training.

They look for undigested food. A great tip is to give your dog a bit of pineapple juice, this will make the feces acidic and the dog will not like the taste. Usually pet stores sell products for your dog to make them not eat their poo.

I used to call them "milk duds" as a joke cuz that's what they look like to dogs! My dog would eat them if I wasn't paying attention. One of the best commands you can teach a dog is "Drop It"...

good luck, and resign yourself to grossness.

P.S. cat turds = Tootsie Rolls...

Deer are carriers of leptospirosis and is spread through their droppings, you don't want to let him do that. Make sure he is vaccinated against it as well.
