Try changing the brand of cat litter you are using. I know there is 'scented' ones, and 'natural' ones.....

My parent's cat does this too! They cannot leave any boxes around. A few times when he went in boxes he had a UTI & then I just think he associated the boxes w/ peeing! Try bringing him to the box he peed in& say NO! Then immediatly take him to his litter box. When he goed in the litter box say"Good boy" & give him a treat. Good luck.

How long ago was he fixed? If its only a day or so, he could still be a bit "out of it" from anesthetic. If not, then you should have the vet check him for urinary problems. The first way a cat tries to tell you when it has cystitis or other urinary problem, is by peeing in other places.

Maybe it is his attempt to mark his territory. Are their other cats around? Was he old enough to spray to mark his territory? Does he have claws? (Sometimes a cat that has been declawed will be so emasculated when he is cut too he will start doing this.) also if a cat has been declawed they can get arthritis in their paws real bad and it hurts to dig in their litter. I would check with your vet but, I think he is making a statement about his hospital adventure or marking his territory.

She could have a urinary tract infection. If it hurts to urinate, they associate that pain with the litter box & will avoid it. Some Clavamox would probably clear that up. If it is BEHAVIORAL and not medical, you may want to try putting a small litter box in those 2 locations & see what happens.

if you ever feed him treats, stop feeding them to him for a while, especially when he pees in a place he's not supposed to. leave his litter box in a place where he can see it, it is easy to get to, and he can use it whenever he wants. try leaving it in a place where he likes to hang out, if he specifically likes hanging out in the living room, leave it in there for a few weeks. let him get used to the litter box instead of the floor :P
he may mistake the regular boxes for his real litter box. do something to the litter box to make it more distinctive, paint it a bright color, decorate it, something like that. also hide all the boxes in your house so he can't get to them.
good luck

He could have a UTI or some other health problem. You should take him to the vet to rule out any health related problems.
You could also try putting out more litter boxes. You should have one litter box for every cat you own, plus one.
Good luck!

That's not unusual for older cats, don't know how old your cat is. Your cat is marking his territory; do you have another pet in the house? Also, have the vet check to see if your cat has an infection.
