I started going to the gym the 23rd (last month) and have been going Mon-Fri every week since. I burn 200-300 calories doing cardio. No weight loss yet! Why? I'm 5'2" and 123-124lbs. What is going on? I don't eat unhealthy and in my job I have to walk a LOT. I'm trying to get back to 110lbs and I wanted to do it by the 18th of this month. *sigh* Can it be done? I also take Zenalean Pro. (It has ephedrine in it)

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to be burning more calories?

two things. first, raise the intensity of your cardio sessions. excersising is based on forcing your body to adapt to a higher workload. if you already walk alot, and arent really pushing yourself in the gym, to your body is just more of the same, and you wont get results. you have to force it to adapt to something new. second, lift weights. you arent going to put on any unsightly bulk by accident, believe me. you will however increase your musculature, and that will burn fat even during rest periods. third, drink vast amounts of water. our bodies are 75% water, so we tend to retain. people are in an almost perpetual state of mild dehydration. you should be throwing back about 3/4 of a gallon a day in just water. check out this sight www.crossfit.com. dont be intimidated by the excersizes, take your time to get to know the motions. believe me, i tried it for three months and am in better shape than i was after boot camp. lastly, get a parter. someone to inspire you, to compete wiht, to make this fun. good luck!

Get off the ephedrine, you'll be glad you did. Why do you think they banned it in the states. Possible strokes. Get off that stuff now. Have you gone to a trainer and asked for a bmi (body mass index) test yet? I realize AF gyms don't usually have trainers but you may be able to get one done off base. See what comes of that and try to eat 5-6 small meals a day. And drink plenty of water. It's good for your body and your skin. Portion size is also important. Lean meats the size of your palm, and fruits and veggies all day long. And like the other person suggested try to find someone you can either train with or motivate you when needed.

Two or three things might be going on here.

When you exercise, you lose fat but you gain muscle. Muscle tends to be more dense than fat, so sometimes getting in shape makes you actually gain weight at first. Don't just look at your weight -- that is just a number -- look in the mirror and see if you like your body's shape. Are you losing fat?

Sometimes when you exercise, you tend to eat more -- partially because you think that you can, and partially because you feel more hungry. And don't forget that most sports drinks and most sports energy bars are loaded with sugar (usually under a different name, like fructose, in order to fool you) and calories. Don't forget to watch how many calories that you consume.

When you hit middle age, your metabolism slows down. You have to do more work to lose the same amount of weight than you did when you were a teenager. No good way around this, as far as I know. It is a natural part of aging.

When you say you don't eat unhealthy, I wonder what you mean. You say you eat ephedrine, and that is not healthy. You will find a lot of different ideas about what is healthy food, but you can't go wrong with fruits and vegetables. Wide variety, not just potatoes. Greens are important, like spinach, kale, brocolli. Red and orange for vitaimin A, like carrots, yams, peppers, etc. Beans for fiber. No solid fats, like oleo. Use olive oil instead. No processed foods, no chemicals, and no ephedrine.

Stop looking at how many calories you're burning and start looking at how many calories you're taking in. Calorie content is different than fat content. Also, you said you're only doing cardio. Add some weight or resistance training in on top of that cardio. Increased muscle mass will speed your metabolism and burn more calories.

After that maybe you should check out a heart rate monitor. You need to be working Aerobically in order to burn fat. Too many people get their heart rates too high during cardio workouts with causes you to work Anaerobically which does NOT burn fat, it burns your immediate stores of energy and calories. You need to be working in your target heart rate zone.

Good luck!

remember you have to burn more calories than you take in. also you should be taking vitamins to replace the nutrients you lose when excersising. also you should be lifting weights. when you lift weights your body burns calories for the next 24hrs. after you have lifted them. so if you lift at night your burn all calories all through the next until you exercise again. try liquid vitamins. Centrum liquid is sold in walmart, target and on http://www.drugstore.com. it's cheaper in the stores though by $1.50.
