Depends on what their interests are.

What do they like?

My guess would be Barbie items, or comporable things (like those little "prostitots", the Bratz Dolls), stuffed animals, play make up, dress up items, games, puzzles. . .

Look at their interests. At those ages, I was a huge tomboy, and I was much happier with sport items, or video games than I was with any of the "girly toys". If they are not your kids, ask mom and/or dad. If they are your kids, ask them to write a letter to Santa, and get it that way. . .

Things have changes so much, I haven't had to buy a gift for the age range in 20 years, literally, but back then, it was that stupid cabbage patch doll craze. I see they are still around, how about them.
