Because the bible shows murder and slaughter, adultery and deceitfulness all throughout the bible. (ps, satan wasnt behind even 5% of the murder and killing that went on in the bible, all the credit is given to god in the bible)

"You assume that one has to have a belief in God to be moral and make sound, responsible decisions or to keep one from making the wrong ones"
Actually no, we don't. Look at the Parable of the Good Samaritan - that was kinda Jesus' point!
"How then do you explain the rampant fraud, sexual misconduct, killings, tortures, slavery and other deplorable acts committed in the name of your god since nearly the introduction of your religion?"
Bad people will use anything as an excuse to perpetuate evil on to weaker and more vulnerable people, any child who has been bullied in a school yard will tell you that. It doesn't make them right.
"How do you account for all the lives changed around the world that have not subscribed to your same brand of religion?"
We are all of us climbing a mountain merely taking different paths.
" Are their transformations somehow more suspect than your own simply because they took another path?"
No, but a narrow minded Christian will tell you that there is only one true path.

People that don't truly become converted to Christ will use religion incorrectly and cause all kinds of damage, as has been witnessed throughout history. In the end, it will be the so-called religious people that bring the world to the brink of destruction. But Jesus will return to make a short work of this world. Eventually there will only be two groups, one that is sealed by the Holy Spirit, and one that has the mark of the beast. Unfortunately, most people will wonder after the beast. Read Revelation 13, it's all about the Catholic church and the United States.

no one can explain it. it is not the religion that makes people act that way. no one can control what somebody else does. yes, it does make Christians look bad when people say that they are a christian and they act in a way that is very unlike Christianity. some people don't realize what being a christian is. they think its just believing in God. it really is not. being a christian is a lifestyle. that's where a lot of people get mixed up. they just don't understand.
just because people call themselves Christians and act ugly doesn't mean all Christians are like that. its not the religion that is acting like that. its the people. Christianity is not the only religion that has bad apples. I'm not going to name any but there are many religions that have people saying that they are a member of that faith, yet, they are acting as if they don't.....I'm not going to condemn them for what they do. the only thing i can do is try to influence them and just pray for them.

Not all people who claim Jesus follow Him. Sin is something that Christians deal with all of the time. It is in our nature to sin. But many do not resist sin or they make excuses for their actions. That is why so many terrible things have been done in the name of my God. Your other question was how can we explain that people who have other religions can have life changing experiences. Let me ask you, Don't you think the Devil knows God better than anyone? Can't he imitate Christianity? Why do you think almost all religions have similar characteristics? Satan is the great deceiver. He can make people think they have had a wonderful spiritual experience. That is why being a good person is not enough.

Thats easy. Fallible man.
Fallible MAN commit acts, claiming to be working on Gods authority, when even the newest Christian can see the works would be deplorable to God. It is not God, nor religion itself that has given religion a bad name, it is the sinful, fallible MEN who stand behind God and religion, as if it a shield, or excuse to act in immoral ways. Blame them. Placing blame anyplace else is just silly.

One must not assume Christendom and Christianity are one and the same.
It was foretold that Christianity would be infiltrated by hypocrites and they would take over .....for a time.
Acts 20:29,30.
Jesus foretold the same event at Matthew 7:15.
So, you have witnessed the fulfillment of that prediction.
Christendom is a hypocritical, lying Jezebel.
Christianity, however, makes its quiet, little way.

1. Christianity is not a religion, it's a relationship with the living God.
2. You assume that Christians assume and you know what THAT means!
3. Rampant? Perhaps you have Christianity confused with Catholicism. Irregardless (I know that's not a word but I like it anyway...) Christ is your example, not Christians. Christians are not perfect, just forgiven.

Christians are human, just like you, and we screw up, just like you. Can you explain the actions of every criminal who supposedly shares whatever belief you do or don't have? I have no more control of the acts of others than you do, regardless of their religious beliefs or non-beliefs. Personally, I don't assume that one has to share my belief to be moral, why would you assume that I think that? You guys sure do like to stereotype.

The only difference between you and me, is Jesus Christ. Don't tell me you have never told a lie, or that you have never stolen anything. We are ALL susceptible to sin. We are all guilty of one thing of another.
Look at yourself before you judge me and my beliefs, or any other christian who has failed in some way.
We are all human.

Woah! buddy slow down, I believe what your doing has a name, Stereotyping. Yet this is the sam sin you are a ccusing chrisitians of. You accuse us of lumping people together into an "evil" catagory if they don't belive in god. And sure some chrisitians may do that but not all.
