4 pitbulls killed a 1 year old boy on Monday night in his own home. A single father went outside for less than 5 minutes just after he laid his son down in bed to sleep, he came back in and son was dead in kitchen with 4 pits still devouring him. I'm getting really sick of the saying, "It's bad owners not bad breeds". This is true to an extent, but this breed has a inherent gene that can cause it to snap at any time, no matter how abused or well-trained the dog is or was. I tend to see people who own pits or rots and realize most are not even fit to have children let alone own a breed of dog that can kill when their instinct to do so kicks in, and the sad part is most people who own a pitbull have children, idiots. Denver and Toronto are the only cities I know who has banned this breed, I hope this trend continues to every state and territory in North America. Owner need to be held responsible for their dog's actions, but with this breed the only answer is a total ban.

Smaller dogs or any other dog breed except Pits has a long history of killing humans, 85% of the time it's children under 12. You tell me what breed has this record or even comes close, their is none. Some of you are just not responsible enough to care for this dangerous breed.

It's funny to hear all you pit owners say the same thing, you don't know what your talking about, it's hype, your stupid, mine never hurt anyone, blah blah blah! All this alpha male bullsh*t, this generation of owners, yes you, has given this breed it's reputation, your too blame for the future extinction of this breed in America and Canada. If you honestly cared you owners would have a group that made sure the wrong people do not get this breed, or is that the government's job? There kind off busy and confused right now so if I were an owner who loved my pit I would get off my *** and get the ball rolling on some ideas you can come up with to save your breed from banishment.

I agree completely, these people think that they are exceptions to the rule then their children are always the victims. Should charge the dad with the death. You dont know if the dog is ever going to attack, so why the hell do you have it around your kids?!!!!

Ignorance is bliss. Please don't think that if your child were in a trailer with four labs they would be safe. I just pulled a pit off the street saturday and I trust her more than many other dogs I have rescued. I have a Lhasa someone else picked up and I am holding for its shelter time too and I had to use the tray to his crate to get him in the crate. Im hoping the pit snaps to get rid of him. The pit has now been around me, my daughter my dogs and CATS with no issues. The h*ll if Im going to let the lhasa near anything and certainly not my fingers. If you want him cause he's a cute small breed come and get him. He would be put to sleep at the shelter for acting the way a pit gets accused of.

Cincinnati Ohio has banned pits but never holds up to it. Several cities in northern Ky have the ban and I have seen their animal control officer cry to have to take good family pets away from their families. Pets that she knew before the ban and knew they were loved and cared for better than most people take care of their children. Such as whatever idiot left a baby in the room with 4 dogs!!! Not the dogs fault its the fathers fault. My five dogs (none pits) will spitter and spat with each other all the time but if I say something they know Im there and stop. I can't say a one year old could say no. And I tell every family with children that adopts any dog that they have to tell the dog no. Most will listen.

I would like to thank you for proving a point it is the owner not the dog. His negligence caused the death of the child not the dog. His irresponsibility to the dog and the child created this tragedy. No one should own four dogs in a trailer!!!

Added:

I want to add so much but I do want to state how great pits are with kids and I want you to watch I bet the guy gets another pit.

It's such a sad situation. These dogs have been bred so poorly, and so quickly (to meet the demand for them), that of course they are going to have lots of behavior problems, as well as significant health problems. The dog fighting is such a repulsive human creation, that should have stern & significant punishments. The dogs are paying the price for the greedy, blood thirsty nature of some "ppl". Which is very sad. Unfortunately the pit bull breed has been so bastardized with inbreeding, unhealthy breeding, poor conditions, etc., that it's entirely ;possible a ban will be put into effect. The really unfortunate ramifications of such a sweeping action is the wonderful loving pit bull that has never done anything wrong whatsoever, that's lived with it's owners, been trained and treated wonderfully, and is a loving, caring, very safe Pet,...what about those ????
And yes i agree totally that owners should be held responsible.

Yes, it was a devastating attack that no parent or child should ever have to worry about.

Yes, the owners of the dogs should be held accountable.

I do not agree with banning the breed nor any other breed.
You claim "instinct" is what made/makes these dogs snap... WRONG. something had to trigger it.

Speaking of banning dangerous animals.... never hear them wanting to ban Mountain Lions or bears that attack innocent joggers or campers. Anchorage Alaska hasn't banned Moose even though a moose stopped a man to death.
This is why I am firm on "PUNISH THE DEED, NOT THE BREED"

I don't believe dogs are born evil i own 2 wolf hybrids and they have been said to be bad family dogs but I have 3 young children from 11/2 yrs. - 7yrs. My 2 dogs are great dogs I can pull food out of my dogs mouth and so can my kids. I also have a brother who has a pit bull and it is a great dog too children ride that dog he's been jumped on and have his hair pulled by kids and never been a problem. I don't know if I would blame it completely on the owner but the way it grew up. Did it have alot of child and adult contact as a puppy or was it secluded. I believe that is the mane thing.

i think of that there are some diverse aspects one desires to evaluate earlier passing judgment. at the start, the genetics. this could and DOES play a extensive function interior the habit of the dogs. it particularly is "controlled" purely to a level. appropriate guidance will help quite, yet interior the top, force is force. the yankee Pit Bull Terrier is an animal aggressive dogs. era. this would possibly no longer replace thoroughly. The greater ir-accountable the breeders, the greater severe the breed as an entire gets.

You're an idiot! Dogs are whatever you TRAIN them to be. They are extremely pliable, if you don't train your dog that is YOUR fault. Blame the human, not the dog.

My beloved pitbull "Gruffy" was put down two years ago. He was fifteen. Since then the family has spent a lot of time trying to find another similar pit. He was an amazing, loyal, sweet, even tempered, couch potato. He was raised with us when we were kids, and now my nephew even jokes about the pitbull being the family dog.

I know you don't want to hear about how great this breed is, but you are being narrow minded. Pits are just another breed, nothing more, nothing less. Get over it.

Nobody should ever leave a baby or very young child alone unattended with any dog. Dogs don't recogtnize children as human, they see them as prey animal because the jerky movements, high pitched voices, etc, of children read prey animal to a dog. And that saying is valid because if people would select for less aggressive temperaments in their dogs, and not use aggressive dogs for breeding, they could selectively breed and produce a dog with much less aggression. However, there is so big an underworld of people who want aggressive pits, and people who want them because of macho ideas, etc, or to scare neighbors, that its highly unlikely that enough dogs of the breed could be selectively bred away from aggression to make much difference. Whats said is that people get these aggressive independent breeds (for they are independent dogs too, dogs that arent motivated to please the owner, but who do their own thing) and leave the dogs unattended with young children, don't obedience train or demand respect from the dogs, and often even encourage the aggression. Other breeds with similar problems due to aggression and independent stubborn dominant temperaments include Rottweilers, some Akitas (males worse than females in rots and akitas), Chows, and most terrier breeds in general are not good with children. Many toy dogs are also not good with children, and even a tiny dog can do serious damage to a young child! The best thing is to not leave very young children unattended with dogs ever, and especially with not more than one dog together! Dogs "pack up" when in groups and egg each other on in such awful things as the scene you describe. Fault lies with the dog and its breed, and also with the owner for leaving a young child unattended with a pack of aggressive dogs. No mother dog would ever leave her young puppies with a pack of aggressive dogs like that! And humans are supposedly smarter than dogs

How can they ban you from having a certain dog breed? I don't think that's right WHATSOEVER...I do believe "it's bad owners not bad breeds" my friend has 3 pits and none of them have ever messed with anyone....in the contrary they are always protecting her child. In this case, the owner should be held accountable. What would posess you to leave your 1 yeard old alone with ANY 4 dogs??

Well, its actually a true statement. The owners of these animals should be criminally prosecuted. After all the dog on the little rascals "Petey" was a pit bull. I've seen several that were good pets.

The answer is holding owners accountable. That goes for any pet.

It goes back to the old "nature vs. nurture" arguement. If people can't agree on it in humans how can they understand dogs? I believe, some animals are naturally inclined to be more aggressive, and as they age they have a tendency to get more aggressive and territorial (linked to possible mental illness), but overall I do believe the owner has a lot to do with it. Its just like with kids: if you take a child who has lived in an abusive home, he is more likely to become an abuser, as opposed to one who grew up in a loving stable environment he his more likely to grow into a stable adult. Now if you take a child say of a serial killer and put them into a stable environment, the outcome can vary. Is it nature or nurture? Is he doomed to be evil like his parent, or can the stability form him into a good citizen (or breed)?
