He's a short hair tabby cat, so it's not the hair that's the issue. I was thinking maybe because he's so fat he's having a hard time getting down there, but he's always been rather fat. It's getting unbearable and I'm feeling bad having to push him away when he wants to be pet because he smells so bad...

My wifes cat is like that, exactly. Her name is Pudge, well, not exactly, it's Snoopy. She is incredibly fat. She couldn't clean her butt for a long time, and you're right, it stinks. I put her on a diet and she started to get better hygiene habits. She simply couldn't reach her tush to clean it!

I have the same problem with my cat right now. He's always been a big cat, but I changed his food a while ago and I've noticed he's put on more weight and isn't cleaning himself properly. I bought some baby wipes, but I was told they weren't good to use on pets since they lick themselves - apparently you can get wipes from pet stores that are safe. I decided that I definitely need to change his food back to the indoor cat formula which is less fattening so he can lose some weight. I would suggest you do the same and hopefully your cat will drop some lbs. and start cleaning himself again. Good luck!

There could nicely be scientific the clarification why your cat's feces stink worse than a classic cat. Do they in lots of cases have loose stools or diarrhea? Is there blood interior the stool? now and back cats could have aggravated bowels, which will reason their feces to sniff plenty worse than the traditional cat. attempt a nutrition this is severe in fibre, at the same time with technological expertise weight loss application Hairball administration formulation. I had one cat who had the greater serious maximum terrible smelling feces and after a pair of month in this nutrition i won't be in a position to even tell hers different than for my different (popular) cat! As for litters, the main suitable clutter I relatively have ever used, have faith it or no longer, is timber range pellets, those made for burning in pellet stoves. you will get a great bag of those at maximum hardware shops for under $5, and that they scent great (like sparkling timber). while moist, they give way and soak up the wetness and scent, and as long as you do no longer placed too a lot of it interior the rest room you may flush it accurately. My clutter container is in our bathing room, good via the rest room. If I see a poop i'm going to scoop it good into the rest room and flush it away until eventually now it even has a threat to stink. Then approximately each and every 2 weeks i'm going to scrub the full situation. I never observe an scent EVER except I placed my face good as much as the container, or I leave it uncleaned for greater suitable than 2 weeks. attempt this out! sturdy success with your cats!

It's the fat. My cat has the same issue.

The first thing to do is get him to a groomer for a bath. Then get some pet wipes, and just get in the habit of giving him a swipe when he needs it.

Next, get him to the vet to make sure that he's healthy. Normally you're not going to get residue unless the stools are loose. If they are, it could be something your vet should look at, but it might also be food allergies.

My fatty had the same problem, but it's mostly cleared up now that I've switched her to a good meaty diet.

I am sure the baby wipes would be safe for the cat and I would use the unscented ones. They are very convenient to use. I don't know if the pet store ones are safer or more expensive, etc.

Your cat is not being "lazy" and is probably unhappy about the situation as you are. It is pathetic to see fastidious cats get so overweight they cannot not do the cleaning that all cats do. You are responsible for the weight problem so you can't blame the cat for that.

I don't know the manufacturer's name (there are probably a couple) and you could try checking websites and asking if they are safe for cats.

A fat cat does have problems cleaning its rear. In fact that is a very common problem for a fat cat to have. One thing you might do that will help is to trim the hair around his anus very short, (This helps with the problem in fat cats and also in long haired cats like Persians, which have a hard time grooming themselves)then there's less hair for the poop to get caught in. Another thing that helps is to put a bit of vaseline on his rear, to keep the poop from sticking.

When cats get fat, they get lazy.

You are going that have to wipe your cats butt now.

I would suggest getting your cat on a better brand of food, something from your vets and something that has fiber in it or a bag of the wieght loss formula.

The fatter your cat gets, the worse it will get.

Plus having an overwieght cat puts your cat at high risk for feline diabetes.

Please take care of your kitty that you love and I hope things get better soon.

I have a short haired calico cat that was born without a tail, so she has extra fur on her bottom and it is hard for her to clean it all. I just use a warm, wet paper towel and help her out.
It isn't that your cat is lazy, he just needs some help.
Try putting him on a diet. Being overweight isn't good for a cat. It can take years off of his life.

I'm glad there is someone else on this planet who has to wipe their cat's bottom. I use a dampened paper towel, he doesn't like it but I can't have him going around leaving poop stamps everywhere he sits. Don't use soap, my sister made that mistake then her cat licked off the soap and got the runs!!
