hi i am a fifth year medical student...
eczema (also known as dermatitis) is an inflamation of skin ...
it can be acute or chronic ...
it has many types and each one of them has a different cause and provoking factors and hence a different treatment . generally any thing under the sky can be a provoking factor for eczema , and the most important part of the management is to identify that provoking factor and avoid it..!
then comes the other steps of treatment ..
the best thing you can do now is go to a dermatolgoist and he will help you identify that provoking factor , then he will help you to aoivd it , then he will give you the appropriate medications if needed ..
some of those medications are topical others are systemic according to the type of eczema you have ...
i can tell you what are those medications BUT i know this is WRONG nad those medications MUST be taken under supervision of the dermatologist....
SOME OF THE MEDICATIONS GIVEN FOR ONE TYPE MIGHT WORSEN ANOTHER TYPE ..FOR EXAMPLE STERIODS CAN HELP IN MANY OF THE ECZEMAS BUT THEY WILL MAKE OTHER TYPES WORSE SO UNLESS WE KNOW WHAT IS THE TYPE OF THE ECZEMA WE WILL NOT GIVE ANYTHING!!!

Yes, there is. Aveeno soap and lotion that can be bought at your local department or grocery store, helps a lot to keep it under control. The medical lotion that is prescribed and works well for my child is Elidel. I know there are more kinds out there, but it seems to work the quickest. You do need a prescription for that. Not for the Aveeno products though.

Light sun on problem area several times a week helps ... It will help with the inflammation but the infliction will never completely go away . But as it becomes less irritated , the redness will dissipate and will hardly be noticeable .

Benadryl makes an anti-itch cream that works well, and they also make an anti-itch spray that is outstanding and works very fast. Also, don't wear synthetic fabrics if you can help it, and try to avoid soaps and detergents with dyes and perfumes, these can aggravate it.
