At the grocery store, look in the frosting section. They make decorating pens that you can actually write with, that are made of food coloring.

The Wilton company, sells a form of edible paste that can be used as a paint. MJ Designs, JoAnn Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, even Wal-mart has a section of Wilton baking produts.

Try liquid food colorings and a brand new artist painbrush. The food colors are edible and therefore safe.

Use food colouring and a mixture of water. If you use a small paintbrush, you can dip it in the food colouring and paint it right on to the marshmallow- it's safe and very cheap.

you can buy purple icing jell in your supermasrket...it will have the right texture to do it is for writing on cakes....
