*turn the other cheek* in practice -
Christianity - if someone is bothering my sister, should I tell him, "hang on, I'll go get my other sister"?
Islam - if someone is bothering my sister, POW!!!!!!!
:D
Tolerating oppression is not allowed in Islam. The Prophet Muhammed (p) said, "help the oppressed and the oppressor". The people asked, "O Prophet of God, we can help the oppressed but how can we help the oppressor?" The Prophet (p) replied, "by holding his hand against commiting agression"

Assalamoalakum Sis,
Yes, I believe in the teachings of Jesus(pbuh), of course. However, there are times when you can't. If someone steps way overboard, then there will come a time when you have to defend yourself, your faith, whatever it is they are crossing a line with. We can only turn the other cheek so much. We must also fight and strive against those who mock our faith. This is a form of Jihad, which every Muslim should take very seriously. I'm not saying anyone should be physically hurt, unless they attack us first. And that won't happen, Insha Allah, because there is noone out there who is that bold. All the mockers can do is irritate us to the point that we have to say or do something. Turn the other cheek? Yes, when they don't take it too far. However, when they step over the line, we must defend our religion, and our Ummah. Assalamoalakum Sister.

I do believe in the teaching is Jesus(pbuh) however I think that turning the other cheek is only appropriate in some circumstances. If the offense keeps occurring, if it is intentional and the person has no intention of stopping, and is not sorry it occurred then I think that it is not appropriate. You can only turn the other cheek so long and then you need to be able to defend yourself. Otherwise whatever violence or abuse that is occurring will escalate.

No, I do not. Although I am an American and I was born into Christianity, I have a very difficult time with beleiving that Jesus Christ is God. How can a person be God? That is why I will be converting to Islam because Muslims beleive that God is much bigger than a person and I agree. Allah Akbar:)

Jesus taught to love all people, not to hate.
He also said to pray for those who persecute you.
He also taught to forgive others or else God would not forgive you.
There are many things everyone can learn by reading the words of Jesus.
Or you can choose to only read about the islam/muslim Jesus = 'Isa, info. provided only in the Quran.
As the openminded person you are, go to www.answering-islam.org and you will find there many answers given from the Quran to those who believe the bible. The purpose of the site is not to convert christians or jews to Islam, and the site does not try to convert muslims to any other religion. It is not a long website. It only takes about 15 to 20 min. to read, if one reads it slowly to comprehend its contents.

I believe the teachings of Jesus Christ but if you don't know his word which is the Bible than you don't know him. If you call his word corrupt then do you believe what Christ said? Jesus said before Abraham was I am. Do you also believe in the deity of Jesus Christ? If not then you do not know him.The true Jesus that you do not know taught to turn the other cheek because he fufilled the law and gave us grace he is God who atoned for our sins...If you still live under the law you do not know Christ our lord or why he said to turn the other cheek.

Yes I believe in Jesus and his teachings. And i'm not afraid to stand up and believe in him. You should too. I'm against taking God out of the Pledge of Allegiance and the "In God We Trust" out of money. If you want it off and don't like and you say it offends you then you can just GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS COUNTRY because this country was built under god and for religous freedom.

To a certain extent. It becomes easier to "turn the other cheek" when you can understand why your oppressor is doing what they are doing to you. When you understand a person it is easier to find non violent ways to get them to stop. It is illogical to harm another needlessly, it is a waste of time and energy. Some human beings hurt other out of pure irrationality, some times these people can not be reasoned with and more drastic measures are required to deal with them. It is completely logical and rational to protect yourself, but going out of your way to do harm is illogical and irrational.

Absolutely, because He was God the Son and thus possessed the wisdom of God. Just make sure you read the Bible in context. For example, turn the other cheek is in the context of Christians facing persecution for their faith. Remember, a text without a context is a pretext. The Bible is the most trustworthy and relevant book for us in existence

Yes, but I personally cannot always do it. Not too long ago I couldn't and had to separate myself from someone that was a friend because the anger they caused in me was destroying me as a person. Not necessarily the right choice but sometimes our flesh is weaker that we would like it to be.
