Are there any alcoholic shots aside from jello shots that are sweet or at least not so harsh? And if I may sneak in another question... what exactly does licking salt and sucking a lemon slice do?

Copper Camels and Oatmeal Cookies are really good, as are Pineapple Upsidedown Cake shots. I usually just ask the bartender what a sweet shot is that's good. Also, there's this new lime tequila out that has the punch of a tequila shot but it's not at all as harsh.

Anything mixed with any of the "Pucker" Flavors. I really like these shots called Washington Apples (Apple Pucker mixed with either vodka or crown royal and a blast of cranberry juice - poured into a shaker over ice - then into shot glasses or as a drink) another variety is Grape Pucker and Crown royal shaken in a shaker over ice and into a shot glass. These are very easy to drink. The salt and lemon/lime thing is take the edge off of the alcohol. I don't care for that myself.

If you like creamy drinks, Duck Farts or Blow Jobs are a great tasting shot. If you're making them at home, you can put in less rum to make it not so strong. Buttery Nipples (sometimes called Slippery Nipples) are really sweet (butterscotch) and you can't taste the alcohol much. Um.... lemon drops are good if you like sweet/sour combo.
Go to webtender.com... they've got lots of drinks on there. Fruity stuff is probably your best bet if you want it sweet... or some of the liquer-based shots.

Hot Damn - one of my favorites.
Salt and sucking on a slice of LIME compliments the tequila; makes you want to have another shot!

cherry cheese cake - vanillacuddy and cranberry juice is pretty good if you like cheese cake the puckers are pretty mild but in my opinion are not very sweet.
the lemon and salt kind of help make the tequilla go do a little smoother, takes away the sting.
