"Thou shall have no other gods before me."

Should we change this to better suit the modern day culture in which religious tolerance is generally preferred over such bold religious absolutes?

when the highest person in the universe says I am Jehovah your God , you cannot have other gods..he means it...

Does you fleshly father want you to love and honor another man when he raised you? NO

He created us, he wants the glory and honor. Gods purposes do not change...only silly humans keep trying to find a way not to serve him.

"Should we change this to better suit the modern day culture in which religious tolerance is generally preferred over such bold religious absolutes?"

That is exactly WHY it should never be changed. It has nothing to do with "tolerance" - it has to do with truth. there can not be several "truths" "your truth, my truth, his truth, her truth"...there is only ONE TRUTH. Truth, by nature of its essence, is very narrow indeed.

Does this mean we can't be "tolerant"? No, not at all. It means that we need to be loving, patient and Christ-like until the truth is accepted by all.

You can't consider anything Christian "politically correct". You can't change the words of the Bible to suit modern day politics. I am not a religious person and even I see that. Religion is not about politics. There is a difference in religion in schools or religion forced upon people in everyday society than words from a religious document that people choose to read.

Yes every government should be Secular in this world so that there is no violence in the name of god. In this case India is the best example for secularism it's Prime minister belongs to Sikh religion,President is Muslim, Sikhs and Muslims constitute just 13.5% of total population, the leader of ruling party is Christian and the opposition party are Hindus and Buddhists. Hindus constitute 80.4% of total Indian population, Despite attacks and invasions by various Arab and Afghan empires during and after the 7th century CE, Hinduism has survived. The reason is said to be the in-built tolerance and inclusiveness in Hinduism. In India Muslims visit Hindu temples and Hindus enter Muslim religious places. Only in Indian Muslims are more secular, modern and tolerant, Buddhism,Jainism,Sikhism ave born in India.
So this is a classic example of secular society and where there is no place for religion in Governance.Hinduism says other religions are different paths towards god and world is one big family and teaches us God is one but his forms vary so to respect other religions.

1. God was not a politician

2. You, sir, cannot change this commandment

People are always trying to water down the bible and the message of the gospel with dire results.

Don't get caught in that trap. God's Word is firm and true. If you chose to be politically correct, that is ok, but please don't try to mess with your Creator's words.

Matthew 5:18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. - Jesus Christ of Nazareth

It's fine - if you believe in that God. No problem at all for personal religious preferences.

Not applicable if you don't. A good example of why it is being challenged to have the ten commandments removed from Courthouses. It does promote a particular religious belief over others.

Not politically correct.
It's a religious and cultural statement. If you don't agree with it, you can't be Jew or Christian. There's no changing that, unless God says.

God has never been "politically correct." It doesn't matter what we change since that doesn't change the truth. People are already quite free to ignore what God has to say in our great nation of "religious tolerance."

Since when should the commandments become a fashion or fad comforter. It is what it is and either accept or come up with your own. Leave these alone
