In 9 ball pool, after the break, if you can only just see the lowest numbered ball, is it wise to call a push out in case you miss the ball? If you do manage to hit it and pot a ball, are you still at the table or does play pass to your opponent as you called a push out.

If you "push" you give the option to your opponent....should you pocket the object ball he gets to pick if he wants the shot from where it finished.....good time for a "push" as you described it......leave a shot but a hard one to make it hard for him to run out.....and at the same time something that you can do something with it in case he gives it back to you......remember that you can call a push and pocket a ball.....under the same situation you described....assume that the "9" is hanging in the pocket.....if you miss he might get ball in hand and win the game on one shot.......maybe you should call a "push" knock in the 9 or knock it away from the pocket but leaving a hard shot on the object ball.........also call "push" and shoot in a ball any ball and see if by chance the opponent thinks that you "foul" and then picks up the ball....all the time thinking that you had "fouled".....he has not "fouled" by picking it up......if they are not focused and this might work every once in a while.....good luck on the tour!!........by the way should you not know the 9 would get spotted if you make it on this push..

The only time you can push is immediately after the break. If you push and pocket a ball (other than the 9) the next shot is your opponents. If you pocket the 9, the 9 gets spotted and it's your opponent's table. Just be aware that after a push, your opponent can always give the shot back to you so be careful with the push.

Push should only be used when you have absolutely no shot or you cannot think of a good safety shot.
