According to Catholic teaching, human life begins at conception.
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. (Jer 1:5; cf. Job 10:8-12; Ps 22:10-11)
My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth. (Ps 139:15)
Early Church writings: You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish. (Didache 2, 2: SCh 248, 148; cf. Ep. Barnabae 19, 5: PG 2, 777; Ad Diognetum 5, 6: PG 2, 1173; Tertullian, Apol. 9: PL 1, 319-320)
With love in Christ.

At Conception...
Read Scripture and understand why Catholics believe this...
Jer 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations."
Psa 139:13 For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb.
Ecc 11:5 Just as you do not know the path of the wind and how bones are formed in the womb of the pregnant woman, so you do not know the activity of God who makes all things.
Isa 29:16 You turn things around! Shall the potter be considered as equal with the clay, That what is made would say to its maker, "He did not make me"; Or what is formed say to him who formed it, "He has no understanding"?
Isa 43:7 Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made."
Isa 44:2 Thus says the LORD who made you And formed you from the womb...
Isa 44:24 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb...
Isa 49:5 And now says the LORD, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant...
Gen 4:1 Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, "I have gotten a manchild with the help of the LORD."
Gen 25:21 Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived.
There are many, many more examples of God speaking of conception as the start of life. Perhaps these examples will help you understand the position that all life begins at conception...

By no standards does life begin at contraception. Contraception is a preventative measure.
Catholics used to denounce contraception precisely because it prevents conception, which they do view as sacred, but have started to withdraw this view due to ethical reasons; namely, that contraception helps prevent the spread of STDs.

Interesting. I like the Jewish opinion on this. Life begins when the baby is able to survive on its own outside of its mother. Before that time, its just considered an appendage of the mother.

Not just the Catholic faith, not just the Christian faith but most world faiths concur. Life begins at the moment of conception.

A. at contraception, when sperm and egg meet. Even science can agree with this. Sperm meets egg, egg starts to split into cells that form the new organism. Thus, life begins when sperm and egg meet.

the gift of life given to us begins at the moment of conception and is therefore sacred and not to be tampered with.
