I would say to renew your wedding vows should be at a 50th wedding anniversary and yes there should be gifts. Celebrating 50 years is a great accompllishment and a lot of people should be invited to share in the enjoyment... now of course you shouldn't register for anything, but i am 100% positive people will bring gifts....

We had a surprise 40th wedding anniversary for my parents where they renewed their vows. Their anniversary is early July, so we told them that our friends were having a July 4th party. We had the friends send a 'fake' invitation, then we rented a hall, 'stole' the gown my Mom wore at my wedding the year before, rented a tux for Dad (thank goodness he hadn't gained or lost weight since my wedding!), invited the entire original wedding party AND a friend who just happens to be a retired minister! He had a service (about 15 minutes long) just for re-affirmation of the wedding vows. There were about 30 people there and it was just the right size. We never mentioned gifts on the invitation, but everybody came with either a gift or a card with money/gift card inside. My Mom's Dad passed away years ago, so my brother walked my Mom down the aisle. There was not a dry eye in the house as they gazed into each others eyes and took their vows again.

Hubby and I plan to renew at 10 years. We'll fly to Vegas though and make it part of a wild weekend. After 10 years we need the escape from the kids and a chance to live it up! Also, it will give us the no-stress wedding we dreamed of :) and who can turn down being married by Elvis? We want a fun wedding, just for us this time around.
No guests (unless our best friends can join us for the weekend) and no gifts.

A renewal of vows is not another wedding! It's just usually a simple ceremony, then a small dinner, usually at the couple's home. People usually do this at their 25th anniversary. Nice to refuse gifts.

I'm going for 5 years Vegas Style. In this day and age 5 years is what 20 years used to be so I told my husband that every 5 years I want to renew our vows.

It can be whatever you want it to be. I guess you can get gifts agian. I think most people renew vows after 10 years or more.

I would say after 20 years is a good time
Keep it small, closest friends and family only
No gifts except to each other
Otherwise it just appears as a tacky way to try and get gifts from people.

I agree with the last answer 20 years is good. But if you make it that long then make it as big a celebration as you want. After all how many make it that long anymore.

No earlier than 20 years. I would have a "Please No Gifts" note on the invite or "Any Gifts Will Be Donated To ___".
