Of course why ever not?Islam is about working together in unison. If you see me doing something he asks and him doing something that i ask as obeying then yes i would obey my husband. It's about give and take that makes love so special.

Salams..before i begin let me state that islam and muslims in the world today are not one and the same thing. islam is a code of life and is the perfect religion, whereas we muslims are not the best of followers to the teachings and practices of islam.

now, i am a muslim woman married for several years to a VERY abusive husband. yes, a day before yesterday i was slapped very strongly and tightly (today the mark on my cheek has become visible) and shoved on the floor and beated 2 times very, very strongly on my back. Allah is my witness, all this happened for no fault of mine. The incident which prompted my husband to this behvaior was that when he was talking to his sister over the phone, i wanted to ask something with his sister and told my husband if he can tell her so and so thing (i was busy with my child).. immediately after keeping the phone down, he became violent.

He is like a switch, and very pretentious. The only reason i am with him for so many years is because of Allah and the fact that divorce is not a good thing. However, there are times when i want to "just go far away" - perhaps to mecca or madina - and never return, only to die in these holy places.

for those who want to know why i have been with this violent man for such a ling time, well after several years of marriage, i've come to know that he had a very troubled childhood/youth .. therefore being an emotional woman that i am, i console myself that perhaps Allah is testing me, testing my strength and my patience and the fact that how obedient can I be towards my husband. It may not sound logical, but these are the thoughts i have in my mind everytime he shouts, pushes, strangles or hits me.

So ,y dear sisters, obedience is a very subjective term. I mean if a husband is unjust and cruel, islam says something different and our customs/cultures say something different.

Just my two cents, i am feeling very depressed and have a severe headache and bruise marks on my body. if I go to the hospital, my husband will think i am trying to embarass him in society. what am i doing? is it oebdience or stupidity or cowardice?

And Allah knows best.

Yes I do. I know the punishment if I don't, One a husband can talk to his disobiedent wife. Two if that doesn't work he can make her sleep in another room. Three he can hit her lightly except on her face or hands only as a last resort. Plus I believe all women should obey their husbands.

you don't know much of our family structure. in America itself it has the highest divorce rate. because went after Men words and ignore God words.

yes i will respect my Husband and lesson to him with LOVE, not thinking he is controlling me. that's create a healthy looking family. a captain who lead the ship, then his wife to stand next to him and support him. there are other issues which required fair discussion between me and my husband. but a husband has always to step forward to take the responsibility. and you bet yea we enjoy sex with our spouse, and we are getting pleased as well. our men are lovable and respectable.

now go head read about your human rights and women dignity. they are fooling you by these articles. they are destroying families by these brainwashing articles. you have the highest divorce rate. women become sex sells now a day. a complete double standard.

Ok, I am not muslim, BUT! I do believe that a woman should listen to her husband, as it is in the marriage vows,,, it is todays times too many woman DON'T listen to their husband, and they do out show their bodies, and make-up like sluts, that is why so many people direspect the american woman- is makes me so angry when a woman hollers RAPE! but what would you expect with a short short skirt, or daisy duke shorts, showing their backsides, and boobs popping out of their blouses.... this is our private body parts, for husband only.... and you can wear nice clothing with out looking like a whore from the street, ALSO- you can and SHOULD listen to your husband, my husband is of strong nature, but he has never told me wrong. 20 yrs married, and I try to always respect mny husband.

Allah or Jesus?

By Rick Mathes

Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the training session there was a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths who explained their belief systems. I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say.

The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam complete with a video. After the presentations, time was provided for questions and answers. When it was my turn I directed my question to the Imam and asked: Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against the infidels of the world. And, that by killing an infidel, which is a command to all Muslims, they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me the definition of an infidel?"

There was no disagreement with my statements and without hesitation he replied, "Non-believers!"

I responded, So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they can go to heaven. Is that correct? The expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that of a little boy who had just gotten caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He sheepishly replied, Yes.

I then stated, Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope John Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Pat Robertson or Dr. Stanley ordering Protestants to do the same in order to go to heaven! The Imam was speechless.

I continued, I also have problem with being your friend when you and your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me. Let me ask you a question-would you rather have your Allah who tells you to kill me in order to go to heaven or my Jesus who tells me to love you because I am going to heaven and wants you to be with me? You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head in shame.

Chuck Colson once told me something that has sustained me these 20 years of prison ministry. He said to me, Rick, remember that the truth will prevail. And it will!
