The KJV says "thou shalt not murder". But with the evolution of the English language, the NIV was translated to say 'thou shall not kill'. Killing animals is necessary to stay alive as that is a major food source. Killing germs is common sense unless you get off on being sick all the time and living in unsanitary conditions. Murder only applies to humans. Although it could be argued that it applies to animal cruelty as well, but back then animals were never kept as pets like they are today.

Too many people has taken that commandment out of context, Thou shall not Commit Murder out of self gain, That is what that commandment is saying, why would God tell us that Meat is good for food, I had a brother that got caught up in a Religious Cult, First I am a Christian, My brother believe that it is a sin to kill any animal, based on that commandment, One day Me & my other Brother Ask him if he wanted to squirrel hunt or Deer hunt, Before we could finish our asking him, he said NO, I don't believe in killing anything, But he did say, he will go fishing with us, I did not say anything until We left his house & my other brother & myself looked at each other & said I guess he don't consider a Fish a living thing, nor that fishing worm, Nor does he consider a bug his car hit a living thing nor that tomato plant a living plant, all based upon taking one verse out of Context.

The first four commandments are about man's relationship to God and the next six regarding man's relationship to others. Plants, animals and germs are not a factor. You are safe. ;-)

The 10 commandments say "Thou shalt not MURDER". Murder is different from killing....ie killing can be justified (ie self-defense)...Murder can never be justified.
