Some cats just squeek - my cat makes all kinds of sounds - some times is sounds like she's whispering, some times its a loud clear "meow" but most often she just sqeeks at me like she's talking to me. Her purring is very soft too where as my previous cat sounded like a train when he purred!

Some cats don't meow, he might grow out of it. I have a cat that didn't meow for almost the first year of his life, then he started meowing so loud that at times its really annoying. I guess he finally discovered he had a voice and then wanted to make up for it!!

Not all cats meow. We have 3, one who is very talkative and meows about EVERYTHING, one who meows only when he wants something, and one who doesn't meow, just makes a clicking noise and an occasional sqeak.
It to some extend depends on breed (orientals tend to be chatty for example), but ultimately, it might just be your cat isn't the talkative type.

All cats are different and unique. I have two cats at the moment, one never stops meowing, the other not so much. My last male cat I had rarely meowed and he too was neutered. He, like your cat, made small noises. I would not be worried at all, but if you are truly worried you can always ask a vet.

personality, breed. Kind of like some people laugh really loud and some don't. I know a cat who doesn't make any noise at all when she's meowing and it's really cute. My cat is a siamese and his meows sound like a dying teradactyl.
Love your kitty for it.

I had a Tom cat that did the same thing. I took him to the vet and the vet explained cats are just like people they have different vocal cords just like us. He squeaked a very deep squeak until the day he died. (feline leukemia)

Maybe he just isn't the meow type! Do you know anybody who has a cat from the same litter, or his mother? Maybe his family is just like that. He's a deep thinker.

Some cats just squeak. I have a little girl cat (tuxedo patterned fur) and she still sounds like a newborn kitten. Squeaky and barely audible.

cats are different and have different ways of communicating. that squeak might be his meow for somethings. i had one cat that when he saw birds he actually warbled, for other things it was different. i have another who never talks then suddenly sounds like a siamese in distress (a very distinctive cry - however she is not siamese). there are books on cat communications, check your library and see.

He will probably squeak for the rest of his life. I knew a cat that did that.....was SO cute. It's normal for him :)
