i have a new cat from today and she is the whole day "mau-mau" (talking) because she is sad for her old home. She is 2 months old.

I need a tip so i can teach her to make toilet in the cat toilet, because she made it in her bed. Before in her old home she made toilet in sand. I buyed a spetial sand (i even dont know if its a sand) for cat toilet and put it in the bathroom/toilet. Any advice will be helpfull!

And also one more thing can i make myself a toy for my cat and witch will be the best one. And also is it the best thing for the cat a wood for her nails? And how can i make her make her nails at the wood?

Thank you very much and sorry for my bad english! :)

Hi - please read up on cats, maybe at a library or on the internet, from a reliable source. Not that there are not well meaning, long-time pet owners here. Cats will depend on you for a long time - they can live up to 20 years and sometimes longer.

Do NOT declaw your cat. She is young enough to train properly so she won't scratch furniture etc. Use a squirt gun to keep her away from furniture, and praise her for using a cat scratching post. Declawing may seem like an answer for you, but it is cutting off the last section of the cat's toes, not just the nails. This is torture!

There should be a lot of information about making cat toys, beds, scratching posts yourself if you don't have the money to buy lots of stuff. But do feed good cat food, no people food.

You can get pet insurance that will at least cover serious injuries, hospitalization etc... Well worth it when the cat gets older.

If you are very careful, you can trim the cats nails yourself. But PLEASE have someone show you how first. There is a vein (called the quick) that you want to avoid. If you trim a little on the tip first, the vein will retract (pull back up into the nail) a bit. Then you can trim a little more. It takes practice. NOW is the time to get her used to it. You can do one or two at a time. My husband now knows how to do this and he never had cats before.

My husband has also learned how to clean our cats' teeth, with a special brush & paste. They each have their own. They don't exactly like it, he has to wrap the male in a towel to restrict his arms & legs. You cannot put too much pressure on the teeth, they are tiny. But we are trying to avoid having the cats' teeth cleaned by a vet as most (not all) will not clean the cats teeth without using anethesia. We had an older dog die of complications of having her teeth cleaned. We won't do that again unless it's a real emergency and we've run blood tests first. The older the pet, the more their organs cannot handle the sedatives.

Keep your cat indoors if you want it to live longer and healthier (which is more affordable). Don't let them chew on plants, many are dangerous or deadly. DO NOT LET THEM CHEW ON SHOE STRINGS etc... They can be swallowed and CAN wrap around their intestines, with serious or fatal results.

Thanks for being patient with a long post!

When I first brought my last cat home, she was scared too. She didn't come out from hiding for a day or 2. I put out food and water, and knew she was eating. It took her about a week to get used to her new home. After about a month, she was a happy kitty.

For now, just give her time, and don't try to give her too much attention until she is ready for it. She'll come to you.

For the toilet, the sand is good. When she is ready, pick her up and put her in the sand. She'll know what it's for. They like the sand, and will go back to it. If she makes it somewhere else, pick her up, show her the mess, and put her in the sand again. She'll learn.

For a toy, the simple toys were the best. A pen cap that made noise on the wood floor was a favorite. A string that she can chase while you pull it is fun. My cat would bring me the string when I came home. I'd throw it across the room, and she'd jump off the couch, slide across the wood floors, and grab it. She'd then bring it back to me to do it again. It was as much fun for me as it was for her, but probably not so much fun for the neighbors below me. =)

To make another good toy, take some aluminum foil (metal foil) and make it into a ball. It will be light and easy to bat around for your cat.

(Note-assuming the "special sand" is kitty litter)

When I brought my two youngest home, they were about the same age as your kitten. They had been box-trained, but they forgot it when I put them down. What I ended up doing was getting a tray such as house panters use and using that as a spare litter box. And I put them in the big boxes a lot so they would learn where the boxes were.

It's great that you've made toys for her!

For a scratching post, I took a log from a tree that a hurricane knocked down and nailed a scrap piece of old carpet to it. That way the cats can either scratch on carpet or scratch on the wood.

If you give her a lot of attention, she will eventually get used to having a new home.

Good luck!

Congrats on your new cat!

You may need to take her to the litter box and run her paws through it in a digging motion because that is generally how cats use the litter box. She has already been litter trained so it should be fairly easy for her to adjust. She probably just needs to get used to the new location. Sand probably isn't the best thing to use for a littler box. Go to your local pet supply store and ask about a good, clumping, odor controlling litter.

Cats like to play with just about everything. Stuffed toys, shoelaces, and balls are just a few. You will find the safest toys for your new cat at a pet supply store.

As for her nails, you will want to get her a scratching post. All of my cats just instinctively used theirs but you might want to show her what to do with it. I suppose you could make a scratching post out of wood, but make sure to cover it with carpet or some other fabric. Plain would may cause splinters.

Good luck!

Your cat is going through a period of adjustment. It will sleep during the day when no is home because there's nothing else for it to do. Don't hit your kitten! Tell it no, and move, or gently push it away from whatever it is messing with so it will learn not to do that. A scratching post, that's carpeted is what you need so it won't tear up your furniture. Also, go to the pet store and get it a couple cat nip toys; cats love them. Good luck!

Your kitten will use her litter box if you put in in one place and show her where it is, just put littter in it and place her in it and she will know what to do. If you are talking about the toliet that we use I am not sure on how to get a cat to use it! Make sure and clean the litter box daily some cats hate dirty litter and they will go else where if it isn't clean! A cheap toy would be an old sock that has a hole in it or one that you won't wear again. Fold it inside of itself to make a ball or tie it in knots. If she doesn't play with it at least let her sleep with it because it will smell like her new owner and that will be comforting at night, not saying that you smell like dirty socks or anything! A scratching post is usually best if it is wrapped with rope because you don't want one with wodd because of spliters and you don't want one with carpet because she might think that the other carpet in the house is for her to use her claws on too. Hope this helped, good luck. One more thing, please don't give your kiten anything that she can chew on and swallow, ie foil or pen cap. I have seen surgeries on cats that have swallowed hair bands and it wasn't pretty!

Whatever you do, do not EVER put your cat in the litter box and scratch its paws back and forth. That will be seen as a negative experience for your kitten, and she will not want to use the litter box because she will be scared. Cats don't need to be trained like dogs do. The trick is to provide them with toys, litter, scratching posts that they already like. Cats love to play with mice, and toys that are shiny, dangly, or something with a bell. Providing her with litter that you already know that she likes is good. And if you don't want her to scratch your furniture, the trick is to have furniture that doesn't feel good to their claws. If you get smooth fabrics, like microfiber, they won't want to scratch it. Get a scratching post with carpet and rope on it, and she will love to play with that. And finally, another no-no is NEVER declaw a cat. It is their only means of defence if they ever get outside. A cats nails are not very damaging if you keep them short. Get a vet tech from your vet's office to show you how to cut them properly, and trim them once a week, and you should never have a problem. Good Luck!!

Cats will sleep on average for 16 hours a day, and will often stay awake at night. They tend to be nocturnal (hunt at night). As for the potty training, just kindly show her where her box is and encourage her to use it. IF she is getting where she doesn't need to be, get a squirt bottle with some water in it, and squirt her while saying NO!!! This will soon teach her to not do what it is that she is doing wrong. As for the claws, well, they tend to scratch on anything and everything to sharpen their claws. A cheap scratching post should work for this one. I wish you well, and may you have many wonderful years with your new found friend.

Just keep putting her in the litter box. When she gets done eating put her in the box and dig in the sand with her paws. It won't take long for her to get the hang of it. Also, cat dancers are good toys. They have little plastic wands with a string of feathers on them. My cat loves his. A scratching post is a good idea if you aren't going to declaw so your cat doesn't use your furniture. Try one with a cardboard first and sprinkle it with catnip. She will like the scent of it and be more inclined to scratch there. Good luck!
